Members Plumbob Posted February 25, 2016 Members Posted February 25, 2016 Hello everyone. New to the forum, but have been lurking for awhile. I live in Dixon, just a little ways from Ft Wood. About 6 mins for me to get to the Veterans Bridge over the Gasconade and about 2 mins to the ramp at Boiling Springs campground. Bought me a Blazer1752 with a 40 hp jet last year and absolutely love the setup. I usually fish the Gasconade from Jerome to a little above Riddle Bridge. I also fish on the Big Piney from the ramp on Ft Wood. I am active Air Force,at least for the next few months. I retire 1 June after 20 years. We are staying in the area, really like the place. Originally from WV, but the jobs just ain't there, plus my kids love the school here. I love to catfish and smallmouth fish, but will fish for anything if I can catch it. I hope to be able to put some input on this board, but can't guarantee nothing. I'll be learning a lot mostly.
MOPanfisher Posted February 25, 2016 Posted February 25, 2016 Welcome, and thank you sir for your service. From where you are there lots of places you can fish, if you don't mind driving a little. The eastern side is out of my AO, but Niangua, James, Osag e fork of the Gasconade river plus many lakes even up to around Kirksville can be an easy trip for crappie, smallmouthor whatever. Some of the pics the guys have been posting of early smallies and whopper spots are enough to make me twitchy. Don't be afraid to leave the boat and strap on some tennis shoes to wade some smaller streams in summer, you might surprised what you can catch if you aren't too snake shy and are willing to walk a ways from a bridge crossing or ask permission from landowners.
Smallieguy87 Posted February 25, 2016 Posted February 25, 2016 Welcome to the forums and thanks for your service! Looking forward to hearing some reports from the gasconade and piney from you!
Flatbottom Boy Posted February 25, 2016 Posted February 25, 2016 Welcome to the forum! Im right uo the road near the Buckhorn exit. I fish the Piney and Gnade quite a bit out of my kayak. Hit me up if you wanna fish sometime, Ill keep the airforce jokes to a few if you dont pick on my career choice too much!
