joeD Posted March 11, 2016 Posted March 11, 2016 No surprise really. Not the greatest situation for a coach, but, bottom line, he's had two 20 loss seasons in a row. Though coach of the year 3 seasons ago, under difficult circumstances, it's a bottom line business, so, a change was inevitable. Unfortunately, we have to separate the man, personally, from his work. I wonder who's available and willing to take this, frankly, somewhat unappealing job. Barry Hinson?
Al Agnew Posted March 12, 2016 Posted March 12, 2016 You're right, right now, much like Mizzou, it's not an appealing job. SLU is probably even tougher than Mizzou because it's tougher at any time to recruit top talent to come to SLU, and two really bad seasons in a row just pile it on. But it's interesting that SLU pulled the trigger on firing Crews and Mizzou stayed pat with Anderson. I think it was smart of Mizzou to do so, partly because I thought Anderson deserved one more year with more of his own recruits, and also because until the NCAA makes a final decision on sanctions, it's doubtful they could have gotten any kind of good coach to replace him. It also was probably smart of SLU to dump Crews, because he kinda proved he couldn't recruit. But I could see either job going either way. joeD 1
joeD Posted March 14, 2016 Author Posted March 14, 2016 Seems like we are always "starting over." At SLU, that is. Why doesn't Justin Tatum kick his son's butt and tell him to go to SLU? He's going pro anyway. Tell Duke, "No thanks," enroll at SLU, keep mom happy. Bingo.
