I left work early yesterday to try a little fishing at the dam at Taney. Water was way up and it was crowded, so I decided to do a little exploring. Headed to powersite. I got there just before dark and fished the North side along the conrete wall with a crank bait. Saw the rock pile everyone has been talking about. That place is very beautiful after dark with water flowing over the dam. Ended up catching one small bass. Not real sure on how to fish that place from the bank. Is there any public access to the south side? Any suggestions for fishing from the bank would be great.

If you head east on the road to Shadowrock there's a turnoff that will take you to another access, its gravel to the right. If you continue on down toward Shadowrock to the ballfield, that area is all public. You can cross Swan and swing around toward the community building and fish there. On the South side you travel on through River Run and there is good access down the two tracks on either side of Silver Creek, which is the creek crossed on a whistle bridge. During normal water you can continue to follow that road to the water where you have a choice of going toward the dam or turning back to the right where you can travel about 300 yards downstream.

I think most places that aren't posted and lead you to the water are OK.

And this time of the year there are trout down past Silver. ;)

Duckyd, jigs, swimming minnows, rapalas, husky jerks, rougues, and rooster tails all can catch fish there. When the Whites get up there and get going good any place on either side all the way to Swan can be good.A 1/16 OR 1/8 ounce lead head with a plain ole smoke swimming minnow will catch about anything at the Pothole,of course other lures do better at times.

The guy at the tackle shop at the top of the hill will tell you what they are hitting at the time,he seems to be right alot.

Thank for the info guys. Seems like a nice alternate when Taney is high and crowded

The pothole can be fun. I've caught walleye, whites, rainbows and a brown on the same afternoon. I skipped class for that trip and it was well worth it.
