Any updates on how the Current is fishing? The February reports are pretty dismal. Although, I don't guess there is any reason to be too concerned, it has always bounced back well from floods. I am planning to get down there in the next couple of weeks and would appreciate any updates. Thanks in advance.

I am so surprised by the lack of responses. I have been a member of this forum for many years and while I don't post on here much I have always received responses and found members to be friendly and knowledgeable. What's going on?

I fished it the weekend of the eleventh. Fished from about noon to 4 downstream of Tan Vat. I caught about a half dozen decent rainbows and had a nicer fish on that I think may have been a brown but I lost. Talked to a couple guys that had similar luck between Tan Vat and the park. Last time I fished the river was last memorial day and the area between Tan Vat and Baptist has changed quite a bit, I think for the better. Lots of caddis coming off as well. River looks to be in pretty good shape, no idea on the fish populations though.

Fished the park and the upper portion from the cable down about one half a mile. As usual on the Current and Montauk, the floods have rearranged a lot of the holes. Two big pine trees were across the stream below the cable and the section below the last cabin and lagoon was washed out and too deep too wade. Didn't see as many fish in the river or park but the stream was full and the wind hampered visibility. Several good browns in both sections but not as many as I've seen on some trips. Might have been better off fishing the deeper holes with a spinning rod instead of a fly rod too!

Thanks Fog and Dain. I appreciate your reports. Guess I will have to see it for myself. Been fishing the Current from Tan Vat to Cedar for neary 30 years now. Its always been a quality river. I don't know what happened to this site. Not like I was asking for secret holes or such. Just was wanting some general feedback. I know the river gets a lot of pressure but still there are mostly decent, respectable fly fishers below the park and I have been one of them for many years.

No problem. I saw a report on another   forum that was right after the flood, and I think those guys did pretty well. I also saw the February report on this forum that I think you're referring to. Hard to really say off one report you know? I mean that could've just been a bad day, weather moving in, no bugs hatching, who knows.

I don't really know the river all that well, but it seemed like I had to work a little harder this trip than last May. I don't know if that necessarily had anything to do with fish populations though. Could just be a time of year thing too. I mean they've only been stocking the park regularly again for about 3 weeks. I'm sure the more fish they put in the more fish will make their way downstream. There's definitely fish to be caught though.
