rps Posted March 26, 2016 Posted March 26, 2016 I posted in general angling discussion seeking information from anyone who has used an Ulterra self deploy and retrieve trolling motor by MinnKota. What are your impressions/comments?
Members oldasdirt Posted March 28, 2016 Members Posted March 28, 2016 I have one got it about a year ago. I'll be glad to answer any questions. Or you can come see it if you want. It's a 36 v on a ranger 621.
rps Posted March 28, 2016 Author Posted March 28, 2016 RPS do I see age creeping in?? I am afraid that I must admit the truth of that. My torn up left shoulder I had repaired is marginally weaker than my uncut right. My surgeon, when he took my history and after he worked on my left shoulder told me he he would expect to see me in a couple of years for the other one. As former military, you can understand how much a former gym rat hates becoming weaker. I have one got it about a year ago. I'll be glad to answer any questions. Or you can come see it if you want. It's a 36 v on a ranger 621. I basically want to know is the system reliable and responsive? I have been using a Terrova with a fob for several years and love the system. Does the addition of the stow and deploy change that?
Tanderson15 Posted March 28, 2016 Posted March 28, 2016 I know what you mean. This last year has been hard on me. No more running, two bad knees and right know a sore lower back. The golden years have arrived.
Members oldasdirt Posted March 28, 2016 Members Posted March 28, 2016 Having to leg surgeries myself has left me with nerve damage and is the reason I went with the auto deploy. It works great for me no longer have to hang over the front of the boat. I have hummingbirds but I don't care for them and I'm going to replace or add a Lowrance. The anchor system is ok not as good as the I 5. Foot control takes sometime to get used to using. I've got about 200 hours on my boat so it has been used. In general I like it and would buy another safety is what it's all about for me. I fish alone a lot and falling over board is not a good option for me anymore. She's dock at state park marina most of the time. Hope that helps.

rps Posted April 2, 2016 Author Posted April 2, 2016 Spent the day looking at options. Included was a trip to Cope Marine as they handle Lund boats. One of the things I am considering is trading in my tiller steer that I love for a wheel boat of similar size. (16 to 17 feet w/ 75 to 115 Etec) As last time, the Lund and Alumacraft are leaders, although I would like to hear about/see the Ranger deep vee. None of the Ranger dealers here or Missouri seem to carry them. Any advice?
Tanderson15 Posted April 3, 2016 Posted April 3, 2016 RPS, there is a Rangers dealer in Rogers I think it's called outdoor world. I would also look on Walleye Central site. Many used boats with very few hours. Good luck and have fun. Tin ranger or fiberglass?

I seem to be looking in between what is posted - more than 12,000 and less than 40,000. I will go talk with the Ranger dealer. Perhaps they can teach me. And I am definitely looking tin.
