Stump bumper Posted April 24, 2016 Posted April 24, 2016 How many people are fishing the Bass Buddies next weekend. Looks like thunderstorms in forecast right now, could be 400 lightning rods. I am sure the forecast will change some during the week, hard to predict outside of 72 hours, but it might get interesting, since that is usually novice weekend. Good luck to all the members that brave the traffic.

Finished 6th last year but I was able to sight fish and it doesn't look like there are enough fish up on beds to do that this year. Thankfully, the bite is getting tougher and the weights are coming down in all the tournaments.
PigSooner Posted April 26, 2016 Posted April 26, 2016 A buddy of mine signed up and asked me to take him out. We have low expectations, just going out to have some fun. Biggest challenge will be the crowds, and looks like the weather. Dan the fisherman 1
Stump bumper Posted April 28, 2016 Author Posted April 28, 2016 Looks like the weather has changed for Saturday, going to be a good strong wind but with a good trolling motor and strong batteries that should help. I betting everyone sells out of coleslaw spinnerbaits.
Stump bumper Posted April 29, 2016 Author Posted April 29, 2016 I was out around the Islands and saw lots of beds and spooked a few bass of their beds, I never have been good at bed fishing. There was no wind so I was trowing a grub and dragging bottom, found the spots in the chunk rock and smallmouth around the pea gravel. Watermelon and green pumpkin seemed to two best colors in the stained green water. With the winds coming up Saturday, I would keep spinner baits, flukes and swim baits handy and look for those wind beaten shores with brush and nothing is too shallow now when the wind starts blowing. Great time for bank beaters. Last night when the wind was blowing out of Ventris the corners at the mouth were on fire and could have culled a couple of times so watch for wind blowing out of creeks and target the area where rough water meets calm. I was throwing a ned rig in watermelon but I am pretty sure a spinner bait would have worked well also, I was dragging bait for stripers and playing with bass to keep from being bored. Good luck, to all the people out there and be safe and courteous. Don't forget the water and take time to hydrate. Dan the fisherman and Lance34 2
Stump bumper Posted May 1, 2016 Author Posted May 1, 2016 Let's hear some details from the people who went! Who won, why did you loose the big one, ect....
PigSooner Posted May 1, 2016 Posted May 1, 2016 18.99lbs won- team Mcclelland and Hubbard. I read that 915 fish weighing 1842 pounds were weighed. We caught a limit but didn't weigh because we knew we had no chance... Plus the crowd at weigh in- wow! We started in PC and caught a couple of keepers (including our biggest fish) using a finesse rigged craw in ~ 6 fow on pea gravel. Also saw some guys haul in a 4-5 lbs in the same area. We then moved around to choose and caught a couple spots on the bluffs. We fished copper mine to point 9 and caught a couple spots and a bunch of dink smallmouth. Finished up by ventris fishing windy banks/points. Kietech caught the most fish with a couple others on spinner bait. Our expectations were low, and we had a great time. It was a great "excuse" to spend the day on the water.
Mike jones Posted May 1, 2016 Posted May 1, 2016 I fished by myself and weighed 15.42..good enough for 12th. Should have been in the top 5 but I didn't fish clean. I stayed local all day and all my fish were in 7-8 feet of water or less. Several top water baits and flipping plastics accounted for all my fish. Woods, rocks, didn't matter...I saw several on beds but nothing that would have helped my weight so I didn't stop and bed fish any. Funny thing happened to me...I pulled into a long pocket and a boat was fishing out of the pocket almost to the main lake. I pulled in a good distance behind them to fish the pocket they were pulling out of. As I was lowering my trolling motor, the guy in the back of the other boat chirped off that I was pretty close to 50 yards away from them. I said 'Aren't you guys fishing the opposite direction that I am?' He said 'Yeah, but you are breaking the 50 yard rule.' I almost told him to call Joe the tournament director and file a protest...but I didn't. I just sat my rod down and went to the back of the pocket to fish towards the main lake instead of from the main lake into the pocket like I wanted to. Well, you know what happened...I caught a limit down that bank that they just fished including a couple 3 pounders. So to the hillbillies in the aluminum boat that chirped off, karma is a BITCH!! Lol!!!! Rant over. RyanG and Bradsnation 2

Thanks Stump...when the wind came up in the afternoon, I went out in the main lake and fished the wind with a spinnerbait and swimbait with no luck...all I was thinking while I was out there was 'Stump would be catching them right now!!'
