Crappie spawn

Headed up this afternoon with a friend. What is the general consensus about the crappie? Have the majority spawned and headed off shore or are there a few stragglers still to be caught? In some past years I have been fortunate to find a few pockets of active fish in the northern part of the lake. About three weeks ago we were able to find them in the spawning mode right before and after dark in 10-12' of water.

We were up last Saturday, Mainly bass fishing until about 4 pm and started crappie fishing we ended up with 12 crappie by 7 pm, We found that they were in 6 to 12 ftw water temp 63 to 67 degress Chicken rock area.  But the thing I saw was I would pull up in my normal spots and catch 3 to 4 right of the bat and then wouldn't get a bite go to next spot and same thing happened. Did lose about 7 right at the boat and they were the bigger fish. Should have got the net out after the first one!!!!!

Thanks for the input justfishing. On the right day especially under low light there might be an earlier bite, but I for the most part do better in the last hour or two this time of year. Guess I will find out this evening. The guy I'm going with drives a Bullet with a 250 hp that will obtain warp speed in 5 seconds.

This late in the spawn The fish on the banks are so sporadic one day they bite and the next not. Your better off locating the post spawn females for a reliable bite. Look for suspended fish in spawning coves thats them. Good luck.

We fished from 2:30 till 7:30 this afternoon. Started in Googer and immediately caught a big female crappie, which is usually the kiss of death to my fishing. Only caught one more short crappie and a couple of bass on 1/8 roadrunner in that first hour. Moved further up the Big Sac about 2 miles south of Chicken Rock for the remainder of time. Ended up with 9 more keepers, but caught about twice that many short fish. I got my line slimmed by a 2lb channel cat. All fish were in about the 8' range. There were still a lot of boats out when we left at 8 so I gather the after dark bite may be on, but can't confirm that for sure.

Thanks, assuming that is not an official name. Is it because it looks like a chicken or chickens have been seen on the rock? :)
