Members zback Posted May 8, 2016 Members Posted May 8, 2016 We were on the upper (Steel to Kyle's) mainly just taking in the scenery, but I decided to bring my pole and try and catch a few. All I can say is OMG, it was a terrible idea. Should have just left the pole at home during this busy weekend. I would bet there was over 200 canoes on that stretch. Only caught a few perch. Everybody else I talked to that had a pole said the said. Just too many people on the river to fish.
hoglaw Posted May 13, 2016 Posted May 13, 2016 The upper part of the river has become a zoo on every decent weekend when there's sufficient floating water. There are a lot of places where you can still catch fish with that many folks on the water. My desire to float the buffalo on summer weekends is about zero...even on the less crowded stretches. Just too many folks for me. If you just have to float the buffalo on a summer weekend, the float that starts at Mt. Hersey seems to be less crowded. The put-in is a long gravel ride (or at least it was last time I did it) and the outfitters don't like to use it as much I assume. Ham 1
1969Larson Posted May 13, 2016 Posted May 13, 2016 Right on. Floated Mt Hersey to Woolum on an overnight late last summer. Low water, but we slayed the smallmouth and didn't see another person for two days.
