Al Agnew Posted March 4, 2007 Posted March 4, 2007 Just for fun, what is your personal best fish of various species? Best fish from the Ozarks? Feel free to tell as much or as little as you wish about it. Here are some of mine: Largemouth bass--23.5 inches, 9 pounds (from a local MO lake) However, my longest largemouth, and biggest Ozark stream largemouth, was a 25 incher (didn't weigh it before releasing, guesstimate 8 pounds) Smallmouth bass--two 5 pounders from Ozark streams, one was 21.5 inches, the other just under 22 inches. One came from the Meramec, the other from Big River. I've probably caught a few in other parts of the country that weighed pretty close to that, but didn't weigh them Spotted bass--a very fat 19 incher that weighed just under 5 pounds, from lower Black River. Walleye--a 31 inch, 12.5 pounder, from lower Black River. Rainbow trout--nothing real big, other than some 30 inch plus steelhead in Idaho, biggest from MO was 22 inches from the Meramec. Brown trout--25 incher from Current River Longest fish I ever caught was probably the 54 inch longnose gar I caught on an ultralight spinning rod.
Danimal Posted March 4, 2007 Posted March 4, 2007 22" smallmouth --Ouachita River... whole time I was fighten' her, one of equal size was tryin' to take the lure out of her mouth. It changed my life. I know that's not a true Ozark Mtn.fish, but the Ouachitas were formed by the same faulting process that formed the Ozarks. Dan-o RELEASE THOSE BROWNIES!!
RiverRunner Posted March 5, 2007 Posted March 5, 2007 My biggest fish from the Ozarks was a 13 lbs rainbow I caught at Dry Run Creek in 1991 (I was 12 at the time). My biggest fish period is a 20 lbs + blue catfish out of the Tennessee River below Guntersville Dam in Alabama. Other notables: Biggest largemouth: 12 lbs, pond in Blount County, AL (caught 3 times) Biggest Smallmouth: 3 lbs from Eleven Point River, Randolph County, AR Biggest Spotted Bass: 4 3/4 lbs, Lay Lake, AL Longest fish was a 14' gar caught out of Maddox Bay, AR
Randall Posted March 6, 2007 Posted March 6, 2007 rainbow- no measurements, real thick brown- same deal, pretty stout Cute animals taste better.
Kicknbass Posted March 6, 2007 Posted March 6, 2007 I'll twist this thread a little and throw in most memorable outings. 1. When I was 5 or 6 my dad and I were fishing on the middle current river and he caught a 25" and a 18" fish and I caught a 20" fish all from the same hole in about 20 minutes. We caught several others, but those were the mentionable. My fish fought so hard in the current of the river that I didn't think I was going to land it. I've been hooked on SMB since. 2. Another outing on the meramec, I had just started fly fishing and caught 5 fish on 5 cast from 18" to 15" all released. Then it shut off and I didn't get another bite. 3. Largest SMB 25" in Canada, I have no idea on the weight. We caught over 100 fish per day most over 15" for 4 days. I was so spoiled that when I came back to missouri I didn't fish many times the whole summer. I couldn't stand the disappointment. Largest Missouri SMB 22" from Tablerock. Largest river smallie the one in item #1. Most SMB in a day, Big Piney over 100 fish all (or most) over 14 inches. 4. Northern Pike I caught 2 - 36" fish with in about 20 minutes of each other. The only fish caught all day. 5. Largemouth - 23" long skinny male. It only weighted about 5 lbs. " Too many hobbies to work" - "Must work to eat and play"
