Members Wrath Posted March 4, 2007 Members Posted March 4, 2007 I'm new to Kansas and looking to chase some muskies and pike with the flyrod. Are there any good rivers (perferably) or lakes in the neighboring states? Thanks
John Berry Posted March 4, 2007 Posted March 4, 2007 The Spring River in North Central Arkansas has Tiger Muskie and Walleye. I Have not caught a Tiger Muskie but I have observed one being caught near the Dam Three access a few years ago. SilverMallard Posted March 5, 2007 Posted March 5, 2007 Yes...Tiger Muskies...Spring River. Also, Pomme du Terre in MO has Muskies from what I've read. Dutch Posted March 5, 2007 Posted March 5, 2007 That is correct about the Pomme de Terre. They are stocked in the lake and migrate into the river.
Fish Bork Posted March 5, 2007 Posted March 5, 2007 Fellows Lake outside of Springfield MO has muskies If you want to chase pickerel there are some Grass Pickerel in Crane Creek and farther east in the Current River and others are the larger Chain Pickerel Time flies like an arrow. Fruit flies like a banana.

I used to fish it a lot and never saw or even heard of one.
trout fanatic Posted March 5, 2007 Posted March 5, 2007 It has been many years since I was stationed there, but If I recall correctly either Tuttle Creek reservoir or milford lake (or both) have musky populations. Both lakes are near manhattan kansas and a quick call to one of the marinas on the lake can confirm this. Good luck in your quest
taxidermist Posted March 5, 2007 Posted March 5, 2007 Spring river has not been stocked in many years, it was an accident that released the tiger musky. I was stationed at Ft Riley near Manhatten KS. and fished both lakes and never heard of musky in either. They do have walleye. My daughter lives in Manhatten when I visit I always check around and still noone has seen any musky. So that may have either been a rumor or a one time stocking. Milford does have some nice smallies and Tuttle has some good largemouth. Both have tons of white bass and wipers in both river systems and can be awesome on light tackle.
Brian Sloss Posted March 5, 2007 Posted March 5, 2007 You have been told about the Sring river in Arkansas for Muskies. There are a number of rivers that have chain pickerel (smaller cousin of the pike). The Eleven Point has a strong population of these and I'm sure other rivers do as well. www.elevenpointflyfishing.com www.elevenpointcottages.com (417)270-2497
