wily Posted March 5, 2007 Posted March 5, 2007 I heard about a six pound hybrid that was caught last week in the neosho river above twin bridges. the weather and my sinuses kept me away this weekend, but i should have went yesterday afternoon. i plan to go next weekend. they should be going good in both rivers. the water in the spring will have cleared by then. i think it will take a while for the neosho to clear due to all the snow in western kansas. saddle up and go this week if you're able. it should be prime time.
Bill Butts Posted March 5, 2007 Posted March 5, 2007 wily, Thanks for your post. The water level of the Neosho looks very fishable, 600+ cfs, but is it horribly muddy? Do you know where the Miami stream gage is on the river? Above Miami, or below the Dam somewhere? The Spring River has come down a lot to a very fishable level of 1200 cfs this morning. Like you said, that should be getting very good, very soon. Another critical factor in the Spring season fishing equation, for any specie, that I rarely see posted is water temperature. If you have a thermometer or can get one, this info is vital for tracking and predicting the likelihood of fish being in the river, and whether spawning time is close. If you keep a fishing trip journal, the water temp is excellent to compare from year to year, too. Thanks again, Bill Bill Butts Springfield MO "So many fish, so little time"
kelly Posted March 25, 2007 Posted March 25, 2007 Well guys, the Neosho is up and running. Just a wave at the dam at Chetopa. My dad and I tried snagging today but all we got were scales. I heard they were snagging them at the Miami park so my guess is that they will be here Sunday or Monday. The water is just perfect though. we caught several whites in the two weeks before and I saw one eleven pound wiper come out of there also. Minnows seem to be the bait dejour with jigs running a distant second. Bighill creek has heated up since the rain. I guess we got somewhere in the vicinity of five or six inches of rain this week. White bass are hitting anything we throw but only in the clearer water between the bridge and the creek south of 24000 road. The place is called the horse trails area, you can't miss it, theres a big sign that says...Horse Trails.java script:emoticon('', 'smid_7') Anyway, back on the subject of snagging I watched an 'ol boy land a buffalo today that pushed forty pounds pretty hard. All I had to show were a couple of one inch scales. Remember, barbless is the law now. Kelly
