wily Posted March 5, 2007 Posted March 5, 2007 this is straight from my buddy. **** Went to Grand yesterday, towards the dam. Water was stained, 42-44 degrees, LOTS LOTS LOTS LOTS of dead and dying 2" shad all over the place......made for a very tough day on the lake. Caught 2 Largemouths about as big a round as long, probably in the 2-1/2 lb range, on a Clown Suspending Rogue. Believe it or not, we caught them both in a small pocket on the SOUTH side of a cove around small rock. Depth was probably around 2', with 10-15' water somewhat close. We tried the normal North banks, points, channels, deep docks, big chunk rocks and nothing....hardly even saw any fish on the graph, so we tried something "different" and the fish was stacked in this area......however......I caught 5 BIG ol' nasty Drum within 10' of each other, within the same 5 cast. That's what I found on the graph, it was a dang big school of drum. Each time one hit, I thought, YES WE'VE FOUND THE HONEY HOLE..............................darn Drums. Oh well, something tugged on the line so it beat being at home. Those dang things wouldn't touch my buddies Rogue, but they sure liked that Clown colored Rogue. *** if it was me...i'd try the terra miranda point...and the back side of wolf point in elk river. try the rogue or a jig. be sure to post how you do.
Members carolina-rig-01 Posted March 6, 2007 Author Members Posted March 6, 2007 yeah we were talking about putting in around elk river, after hearing from you i am leaning that way. let's just hope the weather is descent. Members PowersiteProwler Posted March 7, 2007 Members Posted March 7, 2007 I'm going down there this weekend myself. I have an aquaintance who went down last weekend and said 3 guys in 1 boat caught around 100 whites all day. (reliable source, I'm not sure, but it's about time for them to go nuts down there) They are catching them up Spring River, you can do 1 of 2 things, take 43 south towards Seneca then take 10 west. You'll cross Spring River, depending on how big of a boat you you can launch there. A river boat is good right there, but becareful lots and lots of ROCKS! Or, you can take 10 highway to 137 and go south to Twin Bridges. Launch there and you can motor up to the mouth of Spring River and go up that way, preferred method if you have a larger boat. That's the route I'm taking Saturday. They are catching them on Rogues and swimming minnows. This warmer weather this week should help out by Saturday! Now if we can dodge a full day of rain we'll be alright!
Members wildminnow Posted March 9, 2007 Members Posted March 9, 2007 Well i tell you what I have heard stories about the white bass basically just jumping in your boat out there in oklahoma, so I too am going to try my luck out there this weekend, if i dont catch some fish im going to be real upset, hopefully I will have a good guide so show me where the fish are at!!
