Danoinark Posted March 5, 2007 Posted March 5, 2007 How many times do you throw out a 2 lb plastic coffee can when you dip the last little bit of coffee out and say...surely I can find a use for that. Here's a tip. I use them to throw out all of my tying clippings, feather, fur, tinsel, wire and especially hooks that I break, mess up, etc. I just fill up the can with all the clippings and toss when its full. They are especially great for sharps of any kind. When you throw them out then the garbage man or youself don't get stuck when that broken or bad hook gets punctured through the bag. Also they cost nothing compared to those little bags they sell to hang on the vise to put clippings in. Dano Glass Has Class "from the laid back lane in the Arkansas Ozarks"
Steve Smith Posted March 6, 2007 Posted March 6, 2007 That's a good idea Dano, but I don't throw the trimmings away. Every spring, I put the trimming out by my feeder for the birds to use in their nest. ___________________________ AKA Flysmith - Cassville MO
The Caddis Posted March 6, 2007 Posted March 6, 2007 I use a plastic sack from Big Box Mart. As for the hooks and sharp objects, I dispose of them in an empty soda can
Kansas Fly Fisher Posted March 6, 2007 Posted March 6, 2007 Good idea Dano! I keep the coffee cans in my garage for general junk to keep organized. Now I have another use for them. Thanks for the idea! John Born to Fish, Forced to Work KSMEDIC.COM
Terry Beeson Posted March 6, 2007 Posted March 6, 2007 So the real question is, which can works the best for this purpose? Folgers or Maxwell House? Good idea, Dano. My sweetie will thank you for that tip... HEY... she can use that for her embroidery clippings as well!! Danoinark Posted March 6, 2007 Author Posted March 6, 2007 Steve, now you have the right idea!!!! Terry, you drink that expensive stuff???? Glass Has Class "from the laid back lane in the Arkansas Ozarks"
jdmidwest Posted March 7, 2007 Posted March 7, 2007 What if you grind your beans at the store? I use a trash bag for a car I found at a dollar store. Shove the flap under the tying bench to hold it in place. Put a stiff piece of wire around the lip to hold open. Terry Beeson Posted March 7, 2007 Posted March 7, 2007 Barry Dauphin from Louisiana had an interesting trimmings catcher... His wife took a Crown Royal bag, made some cuts, sewed it and used some stiff wire for the frame. It fits on his vise and looks like one you would see in a catalog. But it has a "Crown Royal" logo on the end of it... Very KEWL... MrsDucky Posted March 16, 2007 Posted March 16, 2007 I just realized I have a great tying table, and haven't been using it! It has my sewing machine on it, but that will change VERY soon! I got it from my sister, who got it because some one was throwing it out. It has a revolving top, and the base is about 4" deep, which will be great! I can turn it slightly, attach my vise, and all the clippings will fall into the base! I will let ya'll know how this works out...if it doesn't you won't hear another word about it! I can bring home the trout...fry it up in a pan...and never let you forget I caught it! 'Cause I'm a woman!
