Hey all, so for the last couple of weeks I've been fishing Lake Springfield. I haven't been skunked but other than one monster bass I haven't had great success. i'd like to learn this lake and I'm wondering if you guys have any tips, especially for this time of year. I've personally had the most success fishing the shallow weeds and stick ups. I'm on a boat so that helps a tonne. Anyways are there any patterns you guys know of? Or is it just a difficult lake to fish in general?  Any help would be appreciated.

In my personal experience, it's a difficult lake, but I haven't lived here for very long. I did catch two very nice keeper bass below the dam earlier this week (see my post), but that's the most success I've had other than bluegill. I know there are good fish in there, I just haven't been able to get on them very much. I heard a rumor that there was a state record smallmouth in there the MDC found while doing an electrofishing survey, but I'm not sure if that's true or not.

Pretty much the same. Get some shade on the grass and it helps. Mostly using a 5 inch dark colored worm texas rigged. If you watch that grass closely you can sometimes see the fish moving through it. Haven't had much luck on anything else.

Flysmallie has the idea. Did best when I fished it SLOW. Make multiple casts to cover (don't just stop at one).

I haven't fished it much this year, but it used to be about the only lake I fished. I always tried to be on the water EARLY. Mornings this time of year was when I did the best. Evenings were sometimes a crap shoot and mid-day could be some really tough fishing.

Occasionally, I'll throw an off the wall color. Bubblegum pink was one of my favorites (trick worms or Senkos). Usually I'd try the darker colors (watermelon or green pumpkin) and then if I wasn't getting anything I'd move to something crazy.

Yeah I've had the most success with a t-rig worm in watermelon seed color. And also a brown tube. I've thrown a 3 in Swimbait to no avail the last two trips. I feel like this lake is difficult to fish but there are big fish to be caught. My next trip I'm gonna try a Ned rig, and senko . Maybe throw a spinnerbait early in the morning around the grass.

Keep in mind it isn't the best time of the year. It's hot. They are hot. They don't seem to want to do a lot of chasing. But the fish I have caught have been fat, solid looking fish. Not those skinny LMs you usually see this time of the year.

What area of the lake are you fishing?

Same here, every fish I've caught has had a belly. And I put in at the park and fish up and down what I think is the river channel and in the grass. Yesterday I put in at the point and paddled across the lake to fish the big bluff. Basically anywhere I can put in I try to hit. I'm considering putting in at the Southwood access too. How about yourself?

I've just been using Southwood and paddling towards the park. I have also went east under 65 and up the river but have had better luck towards the park.

Ahh I see. Well maybe I'll see you out there one day!
