For my light setup I'm currently using a St. Croix Triumph (the ones made in China, so they're pretty cheap) medium light action, 6' rod.

This was only $60 and I almost prefer it over the G-Loomis. With the Pflueger President reel it has great feel and has caught LOTS of fish. It's cheap enough to take in the canoe and is the best feeling rod I've fished for the money.

I've heard Pflueger makes some of the Bass Pro reels, so you might save a few bucks there. I have a 7'6" micro lite and I love it. My best fishing buddy has one too, so it get's a little crowded in the canoe, but you can really chuck a jig with and I use it almost like a flipping stick in tight quarters.

I don't think you can go wrong with the St. Croix Premier series. I have quit fishing any other UL rig since I bought my first one. Good quality rig, and you won't have to sell your first born to pick one up, or cry if your wife throws it at you, or slams it in the door because you're going fishing again.

I own a stradic 2000, get it wet binds so tight you can't turn the handle.I also have a symetre 750,been wet several times notta problem.....yet.Stradic's been in the shop twice in last 5 years. The reels smooth when fresh from shop......just don't get it wet.Something about the lube is incased and can only be relubed at dealer authorized repair shop or you void warranty.Shimino's drags are excellent, especially when using light line[1lps.-2lps.test].

You might give Phil a try. He sells some nice rods for jig and float fishing. I thought the prices were very reasonable.

I would rather be fishin'.
