I trout fished on the Spring River for the first time today and landed 38 trout (37 rainbows and 1 brown) and one Largemouth Bass. I didn't have any fish of any size and the biggest trout I landed was around 13 inches.   I ended up wade fishing downstream from Dam 3 and probably went a mile or so down.  The best bait for me were 1/16 ounce Zig Jigs.  I also caught quite a few trout on 1/8 ounce Rooster Tails.  I fished from around 7:30 AM until around 2:30 PM and only saw about 5 canoes and one drift boat while I was fishing.  Most wade fisherman were fairly close to Dam 3.

Must have been pretty low to wade it that far down.

The water wasn't really low and based on the rain last week I'd bet the flow was above normal.  I just hugged the bank when I needed too, and I also probably wade deeper water than most people.

Good to see a Spring River Report, as it has been a while. Always loved that river, caught a lot of nice fish, but twenty five years have slipped by, and this body isn't too happy in a canoe anymore. Great Fishery, loved the 20 some shoals that one has to get over.  CM

Good report.

I fished there yesterday also. I was in a yellow kayak. Had a good day with lots of rainbows. Sure wish they would stock trout a bit larger. Also be great if they designated a catch and release area. I believe the Spring is the only year around trout fishery in the state with no special regulation area.
