Hello all - new to the site and new to wade fishing. Looking for some advice for a newbie. Was out on the white below the dam early yesterday morning. Really love being out there, nothing like it.

Any tips for the new guy would be greatly appreciated!

A wading staff and cleated felt soled boots will really help you get around safely. Also don't know if you are aware that the c&r area below the dam closes to fishing starting tomorrow thru Jan 31 for the brown trout spawn.

Have fun and watch the generation schedules.

I don't know the downstream border of the upper C&R area but both are very short. There are many areas that offer fine wading but depending on generation most require a boat to get to. Two web sites that give detailed explanations about wading and water levels are Dally's Ozark Fly Fisher and Ozark Fly Flinger, sorry for not including links but a Google search should take you to each. The bottom line is that due to wildly varying water levels the White is an extremely dangerous river to wade and boat. Once you learn to deal with water levels safely you'll have a blast.

Then I picked a poor time to get started!

How far down does the c&r area go?

It goes from the dam down to the wing dam just above the state park boat dock  Rim Shoals and Wildcat shoals are good wading when the water is down.
