Root Admin Phil Lilley Posted March 20, 2007 Root Admin Posted March 20, 2007 Fished with long time friend Darrell Steiner today. We started at the ramp near Riverpointe above Short Creek where Bill Babler said there's tons of rainbows... there is!! They would swarm a jig, fighting over each offering. Got bored and headed up to the trophy area. We caught quite a few on micro jigs under a float 5 feet- olive with an orange head. Nothing big at all but fun. Quit for lunch. Headed down to the Landing and around... caught trout down there too. Went up in Roark- lots and lots of rainbows. They loved a 1/100th oz white jig under a float. Took this pic of Tony Weldele guiding this am... 3 boys, a mom and grandpa. Who said guiding was work!! The old pirate ship- the Sammy Lane- getting gutted today by a backhoe. I happened to be there to record another Branson icon destroyed.
am4mu Posted March 20, 2007 Posted March 20, 2007 Thanks for the pictures Phil. I went on that boat as child forty years ago. Wish someone could have saved the boat and put it on display somewhere. Doug Doug Kiefer Independence, Mo h: am4mu@comcast.net w: dougk@schulzetool.com

MrsDucky Posted March 21, 2007 Posted March 21, 2007 I was just telling John about going on the pirate cruise this weekend, and then saw this post! We stayed at the Sammy Lane a few times, and yes, my sister and I went swimming in that pool! (It was straight from Taney, just run through some type of cleaning system and add chlorine, and it was COLD!!!!!!!!) I miss the days when Branson was more local than it is now! Not the Wayne Newton days...you know, when you ran into the "Mabe boys" as my grandparents called them (gone now, family is still carrying on great, from what I hear!) and every theater was family oriented! It's still a great place, but I miss being able to head down there with less than $50 and take the family to see a show! (I know, inflation, rising costs of blahblahblah... ) I can bring home the trout...fry it up in a pan...and never let you forget I caught it! 'Cause I'm a woman!
Terry Beeson Posted March 21, 2007 Posted March 21, 2007 Wow... one of the tourist traps my parents never took me on, but I do remember the pirate boat for sure... especially the signs coming into Branson on 65... Yep... another one bites the dust...
