Members GregSTC Posted March 22, 2007 Members Posted March 22, 2007 A friend from work will be fishing below the dam next weekend and I promised to tie him some scuds for the trip. What would be the best patterns, colors and sizes?
Randall Posted March 22, 2007 Posted March 22, 2007 gray works best for me, in size 16, and in higher water, a 14. tie it on a curved hook like the tmc 2487 to get the right shape. there should be instructions in the fly recipes deal on here. Cute animals taste better.
Root Admin Phil Lilley Posted March 22, 2007 Root Admin Posted March 22, 2007 They've seemed not to be size shy right now. I'd say to add some #18's and #20's but don't think you need to. Tie some lite and dark gray bugs as well as some olive and tan. Need some zebras too!!
jOrOb Posted March 22, 2007 Posted March 22, 2007 Ya gotta have tan on Taney. I like herl scuds and trout crack. Both are here on the board. Both are easy to tie. Both catch fish! I tie both in Tan and grey. I don't worry about any other colors. Oh yeah, I usually do 16s and 18s for low water and 12s and 14s for high water. Add a little weight to the big ones to fatten them a little. jOrOb "The Lord has blessed us all today... It's just that he has been particularly good to me." Rev MacLean
