CMAC Posted March 26, 2007 Posted March 26, 2007 Caught crappie shallow up the glaize this weekend in brush. Barely visable under water, but in 8-10ft of water (clear). Bait of choice was the swimming minnow (similar to Phil's, I haven't placed my order yet)in silver sparkle. Wind made several areas difficult to fish. Condo dock people were wacking them every where we went. No biggies, but none under 10" inches either.
Root Admin Phil Lilley Posted March 26, 2007 Root Admin Posted March 26, 2007 "condo people" made me think of some guests of ours who have a place on LoZ. They're 2 brothers who have a dock. They said they sunk big steel rings about 5 ft in diameter down in the middle of the stall and hung brush from the rim. That's so that boaters can't fish the middle, where they drop their line straight down the ring and pull out crappie most of the year. They are great guys but they do like their crappie for themselves. If I had a dock in a warmwater lake, I may do something similar.
catman70 Posted March 26, 2007 Posted March 26, 2007 The crappie weren't too hot for us this weekend on the lower lake (6 mm). Caught one here and one there, but no numbers using Yo-Zuri jerks and swimming minnows. Did catch a couple dozen bass in the 1-2lbs size around docks with silver jerks. Most others I saw were using jigs, but none seemed to be tearing them up. Also, caught a 40lbs. blue on cut bait in about 14' of water.

I have a rod designed to get up there and fish the walk ways, Mmm, I'd say it's about 10ft long. That ring thing is a good idea. It's a private lake and most can do as they please, can't blame em' for that.
