Bill Anderson Posted September 28, 2007 Posted September 28, 2007 I would never consider a fiberglass boat. They are heavy, they bash easily, have gel coat problems, fade in the sun, and need big motors. I'll opt for aluminuum every time: light, strong, weather and sun proof, smaller motors, and usually less expensive. So what if they don't come in metal flake? I'm a fisherman, and I want a boat that requires little maintenance other than cleaning. A welded aluminum is best, in my opinion. I have a friend, a Jewish carpenter, whom you should get to know. If you do, your life will never be the same.
Bill Anderson Posted November 5, 2007 Posted November 5, 2007 I sure agree on one point....welded aluminum. I will NEVER own another fiberglass boat. Glass is too heavy, takes a big and expensive motor to get any speed, is too easily damaged, fades in the sun, and not up to bumping stumps, rocks, and docks like aluminum. The only thing better would be an all titanium boat, but the cost of something like that would be astronomical. My tastes run pretty much low budget, actually. A 14 or 15 foot, semi-V, welded aluminum boat with a 20 or 25 horse on the back is plenty for the non-tournament kind of fishing I like to do. It would be cheap to own and operate and easy to launch and recover and lightweight to tow. I have a friend, a Jewish carpenter, whom you should get to know. adjust555 Posted November 8, 2007 Posted November 8, 2007 I've owned 2 trckers and am very pleased with both. Love aluminum over fiberglass for all above reasons. My boat now is a tracker Tournement v18 with a 115 hp merc and a 24 volt trolling motor. has plenty of deck space and storage. I can fish deep or shallow and also pull a tib when i want. Have always benn treated fairly by Bass pro Shops. Compared with fisher and the quality of tracker in my opinion is much better.
Thom Posted November 8, 2007 Posted November 8, 2007 Digger Dave: I have the pro-crappie 2006. They have revised the newer 2007 model. I liked the fact that it had a lower area which my grandkids could be in which was not level with the top edge of the boat. However I also like the flat surface for fishing from if no kids are in the boat. I got the 50 hp and it is pretty good for Taney but on LOZ the smaller procrappie a bit small. Depends what water you are fishing. I purchased from Bass Pro and was not thrilled with the service that I got when going back. Some of the folks that I dealt with were not to helpfulor knowledgeable. If you buy in St. Charles they are limited on what they can do there and will send you to the Fishing hole. I checked another shop and the service I required was less without using the warrantee than with using the warrantee that with the one that I had bought. I would also suggest that you check out the comparable Lowes boats as well as the others suggested before settling on Bass pro. but definately go with 4 stroke no matter what you buy in the way of a motor. There are still a few of the other motors out there at less cost but it is well worth the difference. Thom Harvengt
crappiefisherman Posted November 9, 2007 Posted November 9, 2007 thom if you dont mind answering, what tracker location gave you the poor service.I hope it wasnt in branson as those guys are trying very hard to have a good dealership , even with limited space in their shop. [ [

Thom Posted November 9, 2007 Posted November 9, 2007 Quote "thom if you dont mind answering, what tracker location gave you the poor service" I will PM you with the info and the reason for my comments, but it wasn't Branson or Springfield. Thom Harvengt
Members bojack Posted November 12, 2007 Members Posted November 12, 2007 adjust555; i also have a tv18 with a 115 merc, but with the standard trolling motor. am very interested in upgrading my trolling motor to a 24 volt. what is all involved in doing that? did you have it done or dio it yourself? thanks bojack
adjust555 Posted November 13, 2007 Posted November 13, 2007 bojack. I hade bass pro dp it. It makes a big difference in controlling the boat in high winds. I also had them put in 2 of the larger batteries. not bass pro brand. They had to turn one of the batteries sideways but they fit.
Members bojack Posted November 14, 2007 Members Posted November 14, 2007 that trolling motor that comes with the tv-18 just isn't big enough to push that boat for very long much less in the wind. thanks
