Tents

I have several tents. Most of them are busted up some way or another. I camp about 15 times a year, usually several nights at a time.

I've been searching many sites online for several months and have read many reviews. Any recommendations on both medium and large size tents under $200.00 ?

I have the BPS 2 room tent. It has held up well, and is VERY easy to put up. I got it on sale, at the Camping Classic (or whatever they call it) for under $100, I think, 2 years ago. I don't use it as often as I would like to, but it is always ready!

I have gotten the Ozark Trail tents from Wal-Mart, but they really don't hold up for more than a year, even with water proofing and just being careful.

Dont know what kind of tent your looking for, but I'd look around at Sierra Trading Post or Campmor and see whats on sale. I'd go for a 3-4 season tent, aluminumb poles, and factory sealed seams. The old Eureka's last forever, but there are a lot of more modern designs out there. Cheers.

You will never go wrong with a North Face tent. I have had one and that thing had seen 16 different states, many rain storms and a couple of snow flurries. It was a two person, three season. The Ex bought it for me for my birthday and that slimy pig got it in the divorce. Go figure.

I'd check out REI.com also.

Bought their 2 man pack tent last summer. VERY pleased.

I think it comes in a 3 man, 3 season too and should be in the $200 ballpark.

I hate to admit it but I bought one based on my restricted budget. It's a 14' by 14' SwissGear model for $100 from Sams Club. After I got it home, I realized the poles were not configured as I anticipated by looking at the picture of the tent. 10 yr warranty, so what the hey? I'll give it a test. I really wanted a 4 season, wind resistant, aluminum pole tent similar to what Gavin described. There some good ones like that in Cabela's. Maybe someday.

russ its not the tent, but the brand, Eureka, and the other standards like aluminum poles. The other point was that you can often save a lot of money through Sierra, but they are a closeout facilitiy. Campmor often has some very good deals on tents also and they do carry Eureka's, just not always on sale.

I've used a backpacker Timberlite on the river for a long time, and I can still replace a pole if needed. The Eureka Timberline is ageless, but not for everyone.
