troutchaser Posted April 12, 2007 Posted April 12, 2007 Exactly! OK, it really does exist, but you HAVE to tie it in hot pink. The bigger the better. Throw it out there and make it splash, then strip it back like a man possessed. This is the fly I recommend at Taneycomo to the fisherpeople who walk in front of me, make a lot of noise, and splash around as they wade. They will usually get WAY too close to me and invariably ask what I'm using. I tell them it's a #8 girdle bug in hot pink. Eventually, they go up to River Run and ask for some. It gets them outta the water for a little while. (I hear it made Carolyn a little miffed at me for doing this the day I sent three different people up there, so I better stop it.) You can look at one here. Paul Rone
motroutbum Posted April 12, 2007 Posted April 12, 2007 It is a stonefly imitation. Used out here in the west. Pretty much a leaded hook white rubber legs and black chinielle. There are two types of people. Those who dream dreams and wish, then there are the do'ers. I am a do'er!
troutchaser Posted April 12, 2007 Posted April 12, 2007 But DON'T use black and white, like motroutbum described. You might catch something. The secret is the hot pink color. I say that jokingly, but I talked to a certain someone who caught fish on an all-orange woolly bugger on Taneycomo the other day. Paul Rone

Its practically all orange and or rust color. Dano Glass Has Class "from the laid back lane in the Arkansas Ozarks"
Danoinark Posted April 13, 2007 Posted April 13, 2007 Wondered if anyone would be interested in another swap so soon after the last one? It gives me a good excuse to sit down and tie. If enough interest is shown I'll host a new swap. Thought that we might try Caddis imitations. Doesn't matter whether it's a dry/ emerger /nymph just your favorite caddis imitation. From reading the reports lately it seems as though the caddis are popping all over the Ozarks so thought this pattern might be a good one for a new swap. No timelines at this point , let's see if anyone is interested. 1) DeepDiver75 - Green caddis emerger 2) Kansas Fly Fisher - #14 elk hair caddis 3) Steve Smith - CDC elk hair caddis 4) Troutchaser - #16 Brambridge caddis 5) The Caddis - See picture in thread below 6) jjTroutbum - Rick's Caddis 7) Zach Bearden - Brown fluttering caddis Deepdiver, hopefully you will get everyone to tie up an extra to send to Rolan and take up his offer of photographing the swap for the forum. Thanks. Dano Glass Has Class "from the laid back lane in the Arkansas Ozarks"
troutchaser Posted April 13, 2007 Posted April 13, 2007 So far, we all need to tie two flies for each participant (14), plus an extra for the swapmeister ('cause we're nice guys), and one for Rolan to photograph for us. By my count, that's 16 flies, but only the one we mark for Rolan needs to look good - right? (kidding, of course). Paul Rone
Kicknbass Posted April 13, 2007 Posted April 13, 2007 I posted that I was in a few days ago, but I am not listed. Please add to the list. I will be tying a Deer hair and turkey quill caddis. Kickn' " Too many hobbies to work" - "Must work to eat and play"
Zach Bearden Posted April 14, 2007 Posted April 14, 2007 Oh my... looks like I have a lot of tying to do... Well that Girdle bug looks very odd... You ever tried bootlaces for the center? In like an orange brown vertical stripes, would look very good. Look in American Anglers April 2007 a thing called Give em' the Boot! those flies look very good... "Its clearly Bree time baby!" DeepDiver75 Posted April 15, 2007 Author Posted April 15, 2007 I updated the list of tyers today. Sorry about the delay but I was down at Taney fishing Friday and Saturday in the rain ( I'll post a report on the Taney forum). We just need two more tyers and then we'll pick a due date. I think that I'll give it till Friday and then we'll close it up and go with however many tyers we have. Don't forget to tie an extra fly to be sent to Rolan for posting. Looking forward to seeing some of these interesting caddis patterns (and fishing them!!)
