Dan the fisherman Posted December 24, 2017 Posted December 24, 2017 I’ve been using a 6 foot cast net for 6 years or so now. Finally decided to up grade to a bigger net. Watching Vinsott throw his 10 footer really put a fire under my butt to go bigger. I haven’t got the chance to use it on the lake bit have been throwing it in the yard. I’m really happy so far. The coverage is crazy big difference. I’ll still be throwing the 6ft aound buck brush, trees and what not, and will use the 10ft for open water situations. Really excited to how much faster I can get the shad I need
J-Doc Posted December 25, 2017 Posted December 25, 2017 Don't do what I did and cast on top or near a brush pile. Didn' Know it was there and saw bait and cast. Ripped one of the main tendons on the net. I tried repairing it with heavy mono line and matching the length just right and such. Wasn't easy and still doesn't cast right. I also found I have to use a different technique with a larger net vs a smaller net. Thankfully, I haven't really broke the net out yet this year. Need marine repair? Send our own forum friend "fishinwrench" a message. He will treat you like family!!! I owe fishinwrench a lot of thanks. He has been a great mechanic with lots of patience!
slothman Posted December 25, 2017 Posted December 25, 2017 Also, don't do what I did a few years ago and get your net into a spoonbill. I cast into a ball of shad and caught a spoonbill. He promptly set his business to destroying my net. I left with no shad and no net. Bad day for me. 🤷♂️ Vinsott 1
Stump bumper Posted December 25, 2017 Posted December 25, 2017 I have been thinking about upgrading also, I saw a net at Academy on clearance that was an 8 footer with 1.5lbs per foot . I just don't know if the investment is worth it with as little fishing time I have had lately. I do know that my 6 foot net has not been doing the job this year, shad are getting harder to find where I can see them. Ozark Flyer 1

Amen to that... don’t know if it’s a Shad problem or my speed, range, and accuracy with a net is just not what it was when I was in my 30’s.
