I am planning on going fishing to the Kimberlin City area on TR with my son for a 1st Night Fishing attempt. I have fished this area extensively, but never at night. Should we try the same spots, flat gravel beds and points, or would it be better to move into the coves? Also, are grubs and jerbaits still good baits?

Thx for your help

I havent fished the rock in about a week or so after the climate shock we had last week but i would definatly try the coves where freshwater runs in the back of them. Jigs, and worms should do well. From what i know and have heard keep the bait moving slow and bounce the bottom. Secondary points may be a good idea as well.

I think you and Tyler both have it figured out.And when the water hits 60 degree I would even throw a black jitterbug & black buzz baut in the shallows.

But just be carefull out there as things go bump in the night.

thanks

Fished last night as well the Fist Night Trip of the year for bass.

We had Apox 8 Bass. 3 Keepers Just over 9 lbs total. We fished from Gages Marina To Emerald Point. Caught all of our keepers (Largemouth) south of the 86 bridge.

1 keeper 5.9lbs on a black and blue single spin, 1 keeper on a black and blue chatter bait, and one Keeper on a green pumpkin shaky head right at dusk.

You should do better on that end of the lake, I have heard some very good reports using these same tactics as well as a Texas rigged Craw....Good luck night fishing and keep us posted on how you do.

Did not do as good as you. We caught 4 fish total, but we only stayed until 10:00 pm. All were Ky's in the 12-14" range-- 3 on a green pumpkin dr and 1 on a finesse worm on a split shot rig. There were several chasers on the surface, but could not get them to hit any type of topwater. Had fun trying night fishing though.

Question, if you don't mind: Is it normal when you drag your split shot rig (or jig I suppose) to feel the weight catch on the bottom rocks and logs, or am I fishing too slow? I should drag it on the bottom slowly shouldn't I, or would swimming it right over the bottom work better? Thanks

Joe- A mojo or generic cylindrical finnesse weight will come thru that stuff better than a split shot at times, but yes, you should feel it stop and then (hopefully) pop free. A lot of bites will be after the rig pops free and begins to settle. Even swimming a grub can involve dragging the head right on the bottom.

Did you try throwing a grub or jig spoon at the fish chasing bait? Were they chasing off points or in cove mouths?

Went Sauturday night to Indian Point area and had 3 keepers on a spinner bait after dark. Fished until midnight. Caught several goggle eyes also. Slow rolling 1/2 oz. single blade spinner baits in red/black and brown/orange with a pork frog trailer. Did not try any slow baits at all. Why fish slow when you can catch bass and goggle eye on a spinner bait!! Sure was a pretty night.
