Flysmallie Posted April 20, 2007 Posted April 20, 2007 Fished for about 3 hours midday Thursday. Caught a lot of fat fish. The pine squirrel has finally failed me, I only caught 2 fish on it. Of course half of the fish run off right after they see it. Maybe I have scared them. I gotta quit fishing the same 3 or 4 pools. Caught several on a soft hackle, caught a bunch on san juan worms, a few on a gnat. But the majority of the fish came on the little fly pictured below. Thanks Steve Smith. There were several times that 2 or 3 fish wanted that fly at the same time. It looked like they were fighting over it under water. Saw rvconrad, he was up a ways from me and across the stream. Good to see you out there catching fish rvconrad. It looked like you were doing well. Sorry I didn't come over and speak, but when I waved at you I was already about 30 minutes behind schedule. I really needed to leave right then. And if you noticed I didn't.
Members rvconrad Posted April 20, 2007 Members Posted April 20, 2007 I finally came around to the other side looking for you but you had already gone. Yesterday was a good afternoon of fishing, caught about 30 fish before leaving. Went back this morning around 11 and left about 2. Caught plenty of fish before I left. The crowd was already starting to show. The weekend will be busy. I will probably go back Sunday afternoon. I fish Sun-Fri most weeks. Hope to see you there. Ralph Conrad
MrsDucky Posted April 21, 2007 Posted April 21, 2007 What is that fly? It looks kind of like a bright yellow bead head wooly bugger, but not quite. I need some secrets for Roaring River! Other than to grab the fish before the Rapala! I can bring home the trout...fry it up in a pan...and never let you forget I caught it! 'Cause I'm a woman!
Steve Smith Posted April 23, 2007 Posted April 23, 2007 That’s a ginger bug pattern that is really just a small wooly bugger. It is tied on a size 14 long dry fly hook with a bead head. Ginger marabou tail, ginger chenille, sized ginger dry fly hackle, and yellow thread. Simple tie that can be very effective on Roaring River. ___________________________ AKA Flysmith - Cassville MO
