Fishin' Freak Posted April 21, 2007 Posted April 21, 2007 Fished from 7 to noon from pt. 9 up past point 19. Caught 18 fish, all KY's but not one keeper. I mainly fished pea gravel pts and staging areas. I caught most of my fish dragging the Doctor but I did catch a few on a shakey head and a few on a jig. The Doctor bite was tough to say the least. I probably missed 10-12 fish. Alot of times it just seemed the fish would pick the bait up and drop it. Flat water conditions probably didn't help either. I did try going super shallow and doing some bed fishing. I did find a number of beds but no fish locked on to them. Alot of small males roaming the banks. The fish really seem to be in a transtion phase. For some reason I cannot seem to find the bigger fish. I love catching 18 fish but I would like to have a few keepers!! I am trying to figure out if it is the bigger fish that are not cooperating because they are in transition or if it is the fact that I am fishing used water or what the case is. Any input would be welcomed!!
Whodat Posted April 22, 2007 Posted April 22, 2007 Well we did about the same but had 6 keepers. Put in at Big Bay around the corner from Campbell Pt. We c-rigged lizards and zoom worms. We didn't catch anything shallow, all fish in at least 13-18 foot of water. All kentucky's except 1 black on the point by the launch ramp. Darrell had one keeper on a chomper. We didn't see any fish shallow or nests. The best bite was on one stretch of bank from about 1:00-3:00 we will say around point 20. Caught 4 keepers and 7-8 shorts mostly on zoom worms.
dtrs5kprs Posted April 22, 2007 Posted April 22, 2007 I've run into that small fish bite around Baxter a few times in April. I usually just change to another area of the lake-either up the rivers for fish that are further along, or down the lake for fish that are still on an earlier bite. Doesn't always help, but it is easy to try.
