If you're traveling thru Forsyth, there's a shop just as you're leaving town on the right. They will have them both and they will be open.

If the Forsyth store is closed, you can go straight ahead on 160 a couple of miles to Bob's, on the right toward the top of the hill. He always has a good selection of minnows.

Today's release is tomorrows gift to another fisherman.

Walleye bait in this area is a sore subject for me. K Dock probably won't open until 9:30, and all they carry is crappie minnows.

Bob's Bait has great minners and is usually well supplied, but they like to sleep in too much. Seems like half the day is gone by the time they open. Place is for sale, I think.

The one that's just past Hwy Y in Forsyth, I have never seen open. Ever. And I've been by there literally hundreds of times.

I understand that there's such a thing as an off-season, but on the weekends? Sorry to be so gloomy. Best thing you can do is trap or seine your own, or do without.

I understand the source of your frustration as I tried my best to get minnows and crawlers on saturday. I visited three baitshops on my way to bullshoals and all were closed two of them said they were to be open at 830 and it was 900 when I stopped and no one was open. I guess in the future I will have to find some other means of obtaining bait

In the Fall I noticed another possible source of bait down there.

Going eastbound on Hwy. 76 between Hwy. 65 and Forsyth, there's a gas station and store on the north side just before you cross Bull Creek. I think that's Walnut Shade.

I noticed they had put up a new "Live Bait" sign, and figured that might be handy for future reference. That's all I know about it, and I don't know their hours or if they actually have bait in the wintertime.

Bob's probably got the best assortment of sizes.

I don't know what his hours are now, but you can check by phone to see if he's open.

Here's an idea:

Find a live bait shop in Springfield (I think there's one on Division) or between here and Forsyth. Throw your crawlers in the cooler and place a dozen or so ice cubes in with the minnows – enough to get the water nice and chilly. That should save your bait until you get down there.

Bob's no longer sells tackel. He is only doing taxidermy, and very little of that.
