I can see it now.....

"NEWS FLASH: Three men dressed in waders and eating chili dogs were seen entering Table Rock Dam earlier today. As authorities went to investigate, but could not get close to the dam due to a strong odor coming from inside the dam. At that point, the three men were seen exiting the interior of the dam with ripped waders and gas masks. One of the men threw a lighted match into the door they exited resulting in a huge explosion.

Authorities then opened all gates at the dam sounding the horn which seemed to startle one of the men.

I am done with the terrorist argument. I agree with one poster who said everyone just needs to spend a little more time fishing and a little less time worrying about what might happen. I do have to refute taxidermists statement that it is not safe to dive at the dam. I know lots of people who have done it , still do it and will continue to do it. If there were a safety issue ( within reasonable diving limits) it would have been addressed long before now. You must be talking about a different Table Rock lake than myself in your statement that it is illegal to boat swim or dive inside the bouys. Have you ever driven across the dam on a hot summer day and looked at the Dewey Short area? This area is a very popular swimming and diving location and I have yet seen a ticket or warning issued in all my years of using it. I just hope all those swimmers don't get sucked through the dam with that 12 knot current

Hey Beeson, that might actually make a pretty good short story. You might give some thought to adding that one to your portfolio.

Called the Dewey Short center just for grins and giggles. Then called the COE in Mt Home. just to make sure i had been told the correct things.

Maybe you had better too and ask what the fine is for boating inside the buoys and then ask what could happen if you dive inside the buoys.

Yes there are tickets written every summer for just such things.

Now I know because I have done some additional diving but I have a bit more sense than to dive or swim inside the buoys.

DD you need to check out the fine!!!!!

Minnow "World Record" is your words not mine. YOUR WORDS, why not tell the story correctly of shutup minner. While on your knees dont talk with your mouth full, lmao at U.

To many people seeking thrills and leading sheltered lives.

I leave in 14 days... bought my Samsonite bags today and have my stuff laid out. Boxed them up twice already but changed plans... I'll learn.

You know- this stuff should be plan on the COE site. If not, I need to put a FAQ page together on TR. This is one thing that needs to be put out there cause I have seen people swimming off the south side. I thought it was odd. Should be signs at least!

What were the fines?

This is the only reference to scuba diving on the corps web site of regulations:

Rule 327.5: (a) Swimming, wading, snorkeling or scuba diving at one's own risk is permitted, except at launching sites, designated mooring points and public docks, or other areas so designated by the District Commander.

(B) An international diver down, or inland diving flag must be displayed during underwater activities.

Unless it is posted as prohibited as is the case on the tailwater side is not off limits. It is not posted on the lake side. This is what I was told by the corps personnel also. It is strictly up to the local corps commander. That is why at some dams you will get fined for approaching the dam on the lake side. It is posted as off limits.

We must be talking about two different sets of bouys? I'm talking about the ones about 250 yards off the dam to keep boats out. The area inside of this has been a popular swimming and diving area for as long as I can remember. They even have a set of stairs leading down to the water? On a saturday morning there will be 20 divers and as many swimmers along the entire shoreline. If this is illegal activity then you've got some of the most ignorant wardens in the country because it happens on a daily basis. I don't set out to intentionally break any laws and I would not dive there if there were signs posted to the contrary, there are not. I have spent an entire day at this spot with a class of 20 students in and out of the water and a dive trailer parked at the top of the stairs. Never have we been told that we were in violation of any laws. I don't mean to beat a dead horse but I'm just trying to get the facts straight. I have seen many dam areas where swimming inside of the bouyed area would get you a ticket, TRD is not one of these places.

well taxidermist the correct story on your striper is that the measurments taken would have most likely been a world record, and If I got it to the boat I can gurantee it would not have gotten away. It must not have been flopping around too much to get such accurate measurments, anyway I dont care about your little short story. I do find it amusing that deep diver really seems to know his stuff and keeps busting your chops on you not knowing yours, wow steps into the water seems they encourage water usage there doesn't it? In the famous words of Terry Beeson I will debate this issue no longer the minnow is over and out
