Members wildminnow Posted May 1, 2007 Members Posted May 1, 2007 I will say again I was refering to the original post where people were walking on the darn or whatever they were doing, I was refering to fence around the perimeter just to keep people away not to keep them from blowing it up calm down on floating fence or whatever
Terry Beeson Posted May 1, 2007 Posted May 1, 2007 ...When the little boy got to the cable he just kept on going, going and going. He reached the gravel bar in front of the Dam and he kept on moving. Now he was on the concrete in the center of the Dam... The adults finally reached the gravel bar in front of the Dam. They too took there place gazing up toward the top of this rather large pile of concrete. WM, All I'm saying here is that a fence as you suggested would last about 10 minutes after they start running 3 units. Once the water dropped again, there would be no fence and the "access" these people used would be there again. There are armed guards in towers around nuclear reactor plants... Members wildminnow Posted May 1, 2007 Members Posted May 1, 2007 Your making it sound like this family swam up past the cable from the lake, they walked down the hill over boulders and trees from the way I read it, put up a fence to keep them from walking down from where ever they walked down from. thats all I'm saying the water level will have no effect on it
loo10 Posted May 1, 2007 Posted May 1, 2007 There are armed guards in towers around nuclear reactor plants... Could we get them to shoot the shufflers while they're at it????? troutchaser Posted May 1, 2007 Posted May 1, 2007 That's it. I'm bringing my .44 Taurus Tracker to Taneycomo from now on. And my wife thinks it's too much gun. Say it with me, now: BLAM! BLAM! BLAM! GET AWAY FROM THAT DAM! Paul Rone
Terry Beeson Posted May 1, 2007 Posted May 1, 2007 Too much gun... Like there is such a thing... Hey... Nice pattern, Troutchaser!!! Can I try it? BLAM-BLAM-BLAM! Sah-weeet! Go ahead, PowerBait fisherman... Make my day!!! taxidermist Posted May 1, 2007 Posted May 1, 2007 We are our own best security! I dive in the Gulf of Mexico a couple times per year, the Coast Gaurd has a system in place where if something is wrong or you suspect a boat wouold bomb a oil rig, in minutes the Helo is on site!! Trucker drivers also have a website where they can report suspect vehicles and the like. Last fall I was filmed doing a camera stalk on a herd of elk. It was recorded as the game warden let me see the video. I was amazed that they had cameras that are as small as an old fashioned fountian pen and they are high tech fantastic details!!! So just because you dont see the security measures don't think they are not there. Space tech is so hitech these days a company in Thornton Colorado is the first licensed for one half meter photos. Half meter is just that less than 2 feet by 2 feet!!! Thats pretty darn tight from space. I have been diving for a lot of years and have a lot of dives under my belt, but noway would I swim up to the dam in 100 feet of water, I have seen 11-12 knot currents happen right there at Dewey Short Center, swiming up to the dam is not very darn bright!!! Wanna get caught in the screens?? Not me!!! My biggest fear would be someone in a airplane trying to take out the dam, I am sure that would do more damage than a car boomb in the parking lot or even on top of the dam. Hoover dam has security gaurds in place and have been inspecting cars for some years now. My brother lives in Vegas and hates having to cross the dam because of it. I can see the gun turrets now being built to protect everything from everybody.
RiverRunner Posted May 1, 2007 Posted May 1, 2007 Anyone interested in this should go out and rent "The Dam Busters", which is a movie about the British squadron that bombed the dams on the Rhine River in Germany during WWII. It was no easy task for them to take out those dams, even with four engined bombers and huge bombs. They ended up using bombs that skipped and then sank at the foot of the dam, detonating on the bottom, which caused a breach.
DeepDiver75 Posted May 1, 2007 Posted May 1, 2007 Taxidermist- I have also been diving a long time (25 Years) and have logged over 200 dives in Table Rock alone. First of all the dam is a totally safe place to dive as there is no chance of getting sucked through the turbines at any recreational diving depth. I have dove at Dewey Short often times in the summer when they are generating heavily and there is most definitely not an 11 to 12 knot current. Just facts from lots of experience. I help teach classes at Table Rock from time to time and we often dive at Dewey due to the easy access, I wouldn't want anyone to read the previous posts and assume that it was dangerous. I still say watch what you wish for from our govt in the way of protection from terrorists. Is it better to be safe and lose all of our freedoms in the process than to be happy and live with a chance of an attack?
crappiefisherman Posted May 1, 2007 Posted May 1, 2007 I would imagine Table rock dam is on the secondary strike nuclear attck list.Infrastructure destruction. Im thinking we are going to be fine as long as we dont get 1 million people down stream.I myself think being so much talk about these suitcase bombs thrown around that one would attck a very large metropolitan area , such as new york city.Wide spread panic would follow and our military would have its hands full at home. Then the real war againt against our friend Isreal would happen and we would have our hands tied. But thats just a wild idea, from a hillbilly.
