Wayne SW/MO Posted May 1, 2007 Posted May 1, 2007 Come on Wayne, I've seen it raise 1 foot at river run in a matter of 3 hours with 2 doors open. Hypothetically, if the entire dam was gone I don't see how BS would only go up 1 ft? I may have overestimated If Taney was 20' deep right to its banks, it wouldn't quite make it. 10" maybe? I question the ability to blow TR with hand carried explosives. Short of shaped charges, explosives lose effect when faced with massive structures. Thats why dams are bombed in war, not hit with missiles. Shape charges could destroy the value of the dam, but wouldn't likely bring it down in one shot Today's release is tomorrows gift to another fisherman.
Members wildminnow Posted May 2, 2007 Members Posted May 2, 2007 hey taxidermist you ever see any world record striper getting sucked through the darn while you are down there diving?
Members PowersiteProwler Posted May 2, 2007 Members Posted May 2, 2007 I may have overestimated If Taney was 20' deep right to its banks, it wouldn't quite make it. 10" maybe? And you live in Rockaway Beach, now that is funny! I guess you think if Powersite breeched we could stick a piece of gum over it to keep Bull Shoals from going up over .06 of an inch..
Members wildminnow Posted May 2, 2007 Members Posted May 2, 2007 hey proweler do you think wayne could breech powersite with a few well placed shots with his cat gun?
Members PowersiteProwler Posted May 2, 2007 Members Posted May 2, 2007 Wildminnow, you may have something there.
Wayne SW/MO Posted May 2, 2007 Posted May 2, 2007 Well BS is 45,440 surface acres, which is where the water from Taney would go. Taney is a whopping 2080, and I was being generous with the 20' depth, so do the math. Depending on the level of BS, Powersite could breech and not even flood River Run or Shadow Rock. The only thing that would slow the water would be the turn at Barker. Today's release is tomorrows gift to another fisherman.
Members wildminnow Posted May 2, 2007 Members Posted May 2, 2007 I can not believe you said that. If you think river run and shadow rock would not flood then you need to lay off the crack pipe for a while. Now after the intial flood of water it very well may stabilize and not do great damage down lake but shadow rock and river run would be under water, I mean come on heavy spring rains put them both under on a fairly regular basis. I am no expert but I would bet the farm on them being under water
fly2fish Posted May 2, 2007 Posted May 2, 2007 [ Im thinking we are going to be fine as long as we dont get 1 million people down stream. On some summer weekends it seems like they are a million people on Taney.
Members PowersiteProwler Posted May 2, 2007 Members Posted May 2, 2007 I don't need to do the math, I can comprehend the flooding that would take place without having to get the calculator out. Depending on the level of BS, Powersite could breech and not even flood River Run or Shadow Rock. The only thing that would slow the water would be the turn at Barker. Uh Ok, but the Barker hole is a mile down stream from Shadow Rock and River Run. River Run and Shadow Rock would be flooded before water would be stopped at the Barker Hole. When a Dam breaks water does not follow the exising path way, it makes it's own, and the force of that water is greater then what you seem to realize. Maybe the link below will help put it into perspective: http://www.cbsnews.com/stories/2005/12/15/...in1130223.shtml
Thom Posted May 2, 2007 Posted May 2, 2007 Aw that must be the mainstream, drive by media reporting there. There could not be that much damage from a 50 acre lake. If I were on a web cam you could see my tounge firmly implanted in my cheek. The devestation from the break of just 50 acres escaping literally decimated up to 5 miles downstream. It still hasn't recovered. Thom Harvengt
