why would the oil companies want to build new refineries in order to bring gas prices down?? they're happy making billions in record profits~~keep the demand HIGH and the supply LOW. we'll show the american people that OIL COMPANIES RULE !!!

I was reading that farmers are planting corn now instead of other crops because of Ethanol. We could see increases in food prices, especially for meat and pork. Then there's also biodiesel, some crops are better biodiesel producers than others and they aren't necessarily food crops, so again we could lose more food production so that we can produce biodiesel.

Maybe that banker who told Henry Ford to stay out of the automobile business because horses were here to stay and automobiles were just a passing fad was right afterall...

I bet the Amish are not complaining about the price of gas...

Actually, Terry, the Amish are one of the loudest when it comes to complaining about high gas prices. You see, the Amish took over the media after WWII in return for their support of a Jewish state. All this media hype about gas prices and the benefits of ethanol are a conspiracy for the Amish to sell more corn at a higher margin.

They've stayed away from fossil fuels not because of cultural beliefs (as most think), but because their prophets foretold of a time when hand-made goods and 100% organic foodstuffs would appeal to a growing "green" population. You'll note that the market for organic goods has grown by 20% each year over the last 10 years.

A lot of people don't know this, and probably wouldn't believe you if you told them. ;)

The big investors and the crude producers have to smile when the oil companies take the brunt of the complaints. As catman posted, the profit margin is the key, and they aren't anywhere near the top.

If we want stable prices for fuel that is acceptable for most Americans, we have to produce it from raw materials here.

Its not just the economic security, but the national security thats at stake.

bin Laden has said all along that he would destroy the US by shutting down the oil supply. In today's society, just think what would happen if crude oil supply was cut off. He called the middle eastern oil tanker routs the "umbilical cord" of the US. How right he is...

Alternative sources of energy are a MUST if we are going to keep going. Biofuel is one alternative, but I don't think we can produce enough to make much of a drop in the barrel... We need more emphasis on solar and hydrogen based energy.

By the way... biofuel means more commercial fertilizer, herbacides, and pestacides that wind up in our water supply and fisheries...

Then again, another read of the book of Revelations might just provide some insight...

Just got this in an email... Might put a bit of perspective on things...

"All these examples do NOT imply that gasoline is cheap; it just illustrates how outrageous some prices are....

Compared with Gasoline......

Think a gallon of gas is expensive?

This makes one think, and also puts things in perspective.

Diet Snapple 16 oz $1.29 ... $10.32 per gallon

Lipton Ice Tea 16 oz $1.19 ..........$9.52 per gallon

Gatorade 20 oz $1.59 .... $10.17 per gallon

Ocean Spray 16 oz $1.25 ......... $10.00 per gallon

Brake Fluid 12 oz $3.15 ......... $33.60 per gallon

Vick's Nyquil 6 oz $8.35 ... $178.13 per gallon

Pepto Bismol 4 oz $3.85 .. $123.20 per gallon

Whiteout 7 oz $1.39 ....... . $25.42 per gallon

Scope 1.5 oz $0.99 .....$84.48 per gallon

And this is the REAL KICKER...

Evian water 9 oz $1.49..........$21.19 per gallon!

$21.19 for WATER and the buyers don't even know the source.

(Evian spelled backwards is Naive.)

Ever wonder why computer printers are so cheap?

So they have you hooked for the ink.

Someone calculated the cost of the ink at................

you won't believe it...................

but it is true.........................

$5,200 a gal. ( Five thousand two hundred dollars !! )

So, the next time you're at the pump, be glad your car doesn't run on water, Scope, or Whiteout, Pepto Bismol, Nyquil or God forbid, Printer Ink!!!!!"

Hmmmm... I think printer ink is made from vegetable dye.... (veggies grown by Amish?) Maybe you have a point, Catman....

Just a thought. Brazil just became gas independant recently. They imported no foreign oil. The answer for them was ethenol, just not from corn, but rather suger cane. I know we probably couldn't produce enough sugar cane ourselves, but we could probably find better trading partners than the middle east. Just a thought.
