Root Admin Phil Lilley Posted May 2, 2007 Root Admin Posted May 2, 2007 Levi and I put in at old 86 ramp near State Park at 6 am this am. Pulled out at 8 am. We started fishing the bank to the NE running up in Jake's and immediately started hooking fish. We had on 1/4 oz heads and 2.5 inch olive grubs sitting out away from the bank a good cast distance (sorry I don't have a depth finder and while I'm confessing I don't have a temp gage either). I told Levi to throw to the bank and let it drop to the bottom, reel slow half way back and then let it drop again. He did most of the catching- outfished his old uncle. We worked the bank down 300 yards then headed across to the first point in Clevenger and ran that bank 300 yards. Both have good gravel. Most of the smallies came from the cast to half way back. Didn't look for any bedding fish- no need. All the smallies we caught had spawned out. Found to pods of goggleye and Levi caught one big white off the first point. Saw lots of topwater action but didn't have the gear or lures to throw. One huge school of whites came up in the middle of Jakes for a minute just before we left. We boated 20 smallmouth, 10 gogs and one white. 4 keepers sm with one going 16.5 inches. All before 8 am... not too bad! Saw one other boat on the lake- a guide out of Big Cedar I bet. He headed up in Jakes and only stayed 20 minutes. He must not have found anything.

Tightline Posted May 3, 2007 Posted May 3, 2007 Thats a good bunch of fish in 2 hrs,I have several nephews that do that to me too! Is there any moss down in the dam area? we fished last weekend at Baxter and had trouble fishing rigs and even grubs.Huge strands of the stuff everywhere. We finally ran toward 13 and got out of some of it.Surely its not all the way up White river arm the way they been catching fish up there.
Root Admin Phil Lilley Posted May 3, 2007 Author Root Admin Posted May 3, 2007 We had no problem with moss, nor did I see any. New report- launched at Gages in Long Creek this evening and hit some of my crappie spots. Had Ryan and Levi (nefrews) and Tom Johnson so we had high hopes of putting some slabs in the well. Didn't happen. Caught 2 nice ones on one of my secondary spots off the bank. They appeared to be spawned out females. Fished a gravel bank and hooked one smallie.
Members Conman64 Posted May 3, 2007 Members Posted May 3, 2007 Great report Lilley, I appreciate the extra effort it take to insert the pic. Very cool you are taking your nephews. Sounds like a great Morning.
Members whats bitin' Posted May 3, 2007 Members Posted May 3, 2007 I have been guilted in to writing at this point =) I fish a lot as I live on the Rock. My report is a little old, (last Sunday) I mainly fish dam area so here goes. I threw texas rigged plastics last 2 weeks, have caught several 4 lb+ largemouth and one over 8. I havent yet caught a small jaw in the spawn and have caught several Ky's. My fish are coming in the 5-7 foot range, I cant see the beds, but know they are on the beds or near when I am getting bit by the big fish. I do not have any digital pictures b/c I do not have a digital camera. Green pumpkin is my favorite color in any thing soft made by zoom. I will be going out fri-sunday, but not tonight. I will report back when I have a more up to date account cheers
Root Admin Phil Lilley Posted May 3, 2007 Author Root Admin Posted May 3, 2007 Thanks for the report. Sounds like you've done well. Like I said, I'm not sure if the SM are done spawning... I didn't see any signs of activity nor did I see any females with big bellies. They were all cookie-cutter in shape.
Fishin' Freak Posted May 3, 2007 Posted May 3, 2007 Whats' bitin, Thanks for the report. Always good to have more reports on here, especially when I can't fish for a couple weeks due to work and prior engagements. I will have to live life through you guys!!
rps Posted May 4, 2007 Posted May 4, 2007 Answer to tightline re: moss I fish out of Holiday Island. Leatherwood Creek arm has 18-24 inch strands of moss throughout. It's a shame, as this creek is always excellent this time of year for bass and crappie. I suspect effulent from Eureka Springs. They are working on their water treatment facility. Out on the the White River itself, the moss is mostly in the no flow cuts and not nearly so long. With the development of Rogers and on North to Pea Ridge, combined with growing Berryville and Green Forrest and the chicken farm droppings, Table Rock has begun that stage of lake change from a true highland resevoir to the middle stage where water is not gin. Nowdays you see a color closer to an old fashioned Daiquiri - greenish see through. Just be glad we don't fish the water I moved away from - Oklahoma. There is a reason they drive here to fish.
