I would be anxious to find out just exactly what material it is made of... I know it may be a "secret blend of seven herbs and spices" or something, but at least an idea of what makes it "flourocarbon"...

HUM! Where it was stored that would also lead me to have the same question, what would it matter if the material is supposed to last for ever. I would have to agree with you Rusty.

I guess we should all rush out and buy the new, oh no I don't have it in stock. I'll wait to post what the new device will be.(LOL)

The first spool of Orvis Mirage I ever bought was their 7X. That stuff was totally worthless for me. I couldn't tie knots in it very well and when I did get one tied they were slipping or breaking off on every little dink trout in Taneycomo. It took a moment of desparation a few years later for me to buy another spool in 6X. But that one actually worked out just fine.

Curious, I emailed my buddy JP Mazierkowitz (Scientific Anglers) and asked him what was up with that. He said that there are occassionally bad runs of tippet material, but very rarely from any name brand mfg. He said that almost any of the mfgs will replace them for free via mail if you think you got bad tippet or leaders. He also said that on some occassions a shop will get some tippet stock or leaders that have been sitting in a boxcar on a railyard siding and in a hot warehouse for way too long before getting to a store shelf and they become brittle. He said most of the top names in the business watch their supply chains HARD to try and minimize this.

I have always read from monofilament fishing line mfg's and various writers since I can remember that fishing line becomes brittle when exposed to too much heat or sunlight.

And I know from experience that when I get lazy or desparate and use some old tippet or line that has been laying around for a few years I do get more break-offs than I do when using fresh stuff.

Ok, Guess what just happened? I was about to put the tippet in a envelope and send it off, I thought I would pull off a couple of feet of each an try it again. First pull on the 7x, I pulled off 11". Oh no, what the heck are they going to do with such a short piece of tippet. First pull of the 6X and guess what, all that was left was 13". I feel like such a bonehead. I wonder if they can test such short pieces?

Yes... temp extremes on mono can cause brittleness. PTFE has a much higher resistance to temp extremes.

Russ.... send them the lengths. They may not be able to do all the testing they want to, but they can get some ideas with a short piece. I know they can do tensileand elongation, which are prime measurements.

Kind of reminds me of a gal who brought 2 bites of a hamburger back up to the front counter of the McDonald's where I worked briefly in school and said something was wrong with it and wanted it replaced.

P.S. She got another burger, too.

Reminds me of a time I was dining with my family - including my sister and mom - at a chain steakhouse several years back. My sister's steak was not cooked right, but we couldn't get our server back to the table. We continued to eat and my sister finished her baked potato, texas toast, and a veggie. Finally, the girl comes by, my sister complains about the steak, and a bit later the server comes back with a new steak, potato, toast, and veggie. PLUS, she did not pay for her meal.

Good customer service is worth its weight in gold...

Just so everyone is clear on this. I am not looking for any free supplies. My only reason for this is to find out if this material is as great as the market is claiming. I have turned down many many freebies, only to have an issue corrected. If they want to send it after I have said no thanks, then thats their prerogative.

There was no slight intended, Rusty. It just reminded me of that.
