Well I haven't posted about my experience on kids day. I have never seen so many people trying to fish in my life. Kids climbing on rocks in front of my daughter while she tried to fish. People from the other end of the pool casting at my feet. Chummers, I saw a couple MDC guys having a very stern conversation with one of these guys. Stood next to a guy that was trying to teach his son how to snag a fish. He was a real winner. Stood in line for 30 minutes to get a hot dog and the 1/4 mile line moved about twenty feet, went to McDonald's. Got to the t-shirt line too late, no more t-shirts. All the time dragging a very disappointed 8 yr old along. We finally caught her a few fish. One up with all the crazies, it was a nice fish for her, 17 inches. And she landed a couple farther down in the park on a flyrod.

We finally gave up and went to Flat creek in search of some crawdads and rocks. She had a great day and I really enjoyed the time we spent together. But we have both agreed to pass on the next Kids day and go on a float trip instead.

By the way, Tiffani gave up a day at Silver Dollar City to spend it with her dad fishing. She is one of the best fishing buddies I have ever had.

Tonight, right before all those girls went to bed, I gave Tiffani my Eagle Claw rod with a Medalist reel. I couldn't resist after seeing Rusty's daughter with one.

Of course I have agreed to give our 13 year old her own cell phone. That will probably hurt. I have really been against kids having cell phones. But with all the activities that she is involved in I want to be able to talk to her if we need to. And more importantly I want to make sure that she is able to call us if she needs anything.

Both are already bugging me to take them on an overnight float this summer. I guess girls are okay. If you are gonna live in my house you better be able to fish, and these girls can.

My other is only 3 so she can slide by for at least another year. And I guess I'll keep their mother around since she's so purty cause she sure as hell can't fish. :goodjob:

I took my three daughters and a niece camping last year. Ages were 5-15. All I have to say is...I was absolutely nuts for doing it. Every punk kid within 2 miles was hanging around the camp. Three were even kicked out of the campground for trying to catch a peak after the kids went to bed. They had no idea how close they came to having lead in them. After all that happened, I am going to ask them if they want to go again. Yes, I am nuts. But, with all that happened, they still talk about how much fun they had. I might try a overnight float trip this time.

Free t-shirts and hotdogs are ok, but I'm w/ Rusty and Flysmallie. I think the day after is the way to go. I have 2 girls, 2 and almost 6. I bought my oldest a spincast combo at BP and she's caught a few on powerbait. I'd really like to do the Eagle claw set up for her, too. Rusty--I'm impressed you didn't kill someone. I remember when my oldest was about 2 a little boy about 18 months flirting w/ her in a restaurant. His parents thought it was cute. I about came unglued. The next 15 years is going to be really hard on me.... Ronnie, any advice on having a teenage girl?

I may be more qualified to answer the teenage question, Webfreeman. RUN LIKE H E Double L, and don't give them your new address. It's really not that bad. The doctor said I should be able to go off the medication when they turn 20.

WF,

I raised two through their teenage years. My advice - duct tape and a vault in the basement to keep them in until they are 18 or 21... your choice...

I've been thinking 25, but I guess that's not realistic. 21 is a good alternative.

Sounds like my day at Meramec Spring with my daughter, Obviously they are kids so when they crowd in to within 2 feet of you when my daughter started catching fish or go stand right in front of us to look at a snake, I had to overlook it as ignorance of a child, not rudeness. Fortunately we were able to get in a good spot in the mid-afternoon and she limited out in 25-30 mins, but I have never seen so many people (kids) fishing in my life. I may pass on it next year as well, but hey, it was free (other than the $30 in gas to get down there and back, but that is another post already discussed).
