drew03cmc Posted May 23, 2007 Posted May 23, 2007 Anyone else use ultralight or light fly tackle? I am talking 000-2wt rods and lines? If so, what do you use, and where do you use it? I had a 3wt and sold it, but am now paying on an Orvis 1wt with reel and line. I am psyched to take it to Roaring River and use some small midge dries and some zebra midges and the like. Let's discuss this...also, go to www.byrdultrafly.com if you have any questions. Andy
timsfly Posted May 23, 2007 Posted May 23, 2007 You'll enjoy the 1wt I have several my favorite is the 6'10" scott 1wt, and I have a 6' 2wt fiberglass scott that is a lot of fun, and I have a little 5' 3wt winston fiberglass rod that I really enjoy when condtions are right. A light rod at Roaring river is a lot of fun, there are always a lot of fish looking up, so you can almost always catch a fish or two on real small drys, and that is what these rods do best. I use mine a lot out west on small streams, but the wind will just tear these little rods up. I've tried the 0 and the 00 sage but they were a little to soft for me. drew03cmc Posted May 23, 2007 Author Posted May 23, 2007 The 1wt will be great especially for bluegill and for the trout down at RR. You can catch surprisingly large fish on light rods if you play them right. Low rod angle, keep them fighting the reel and the butt of the rod. Let the tip do its job! It is nice to see someone else on here who knows about the UL aspect of fly fishing. Andy
