Flysmallie Posted May 24, 2007 Posted May 24, 2007 Decided to go smallie fishing today. Saw some places last week in my travels that I wanted to try down close to Cassville. Ended up at Roaring River. Oh well I can go smallie fishing later. Parked by the cleaning station (is there more than one? right by the park entrance) and fished all the way to the hatchery and back. Lots of good fish in the water right now. Fished my way to the hatchery with a pine squirrel. On the way back I caught 2 on a black zebra and 3 on a ginger wooly. But I couldn't resist. I put the pine squirrel back on and ended up catching 19 in all. I caught very few fish under 15". Most were 15" to 16" and very fat. Finally gave that new rod a good workout.
Kansas Fly Fisher Posted May 24, 2007 Posted May 24, 2007 Sounds like a lot of fun. I think the wife and I are headed there tomorrow for a couple of days. I'll have to give the PS a good work out my self. John Born to Fish, Forced to Work KSMEDIC.COM
Flysmallie Posted May 24, 2007 Author Posted May 24, 2007 John, it seemed that they liked olive the best. Keep in mind that I covered a lot of water today. Spent maybe 5 to 10 minutes per pool and if I didn't get any lookers I moved on. Fishing the white water right at the head of the pools is the best bet. Good luck. Might come down Friday afternoon for a couple hours. If you see a large guy in an orange OAF hat with a little girl tagging along, that would be me.
Kansas Fly Fisher Posted May 24, 2007 Posted May 24, 2007 I'm a large guy as well and I'll have my orange OAF hat on also. Hope to see ya there. John Born to Fish, Forced to Work KSMEDIC.COM
