Mo code:

[A] Fly—A lure constructed on a single-point hook, of feathers, tinsel, chenille, yarn, fur, hair, silk, rayon or nylon thread or floss, with or without spinner.

Artificial lure—A manufactured lure other than a fly or soft plastic bait (unscent-ed).

[C] Soft plastic bait (unscented)—Synthetic eggs, synthetic worms, synthetic grubs and soft plastic lures.

Per regulations your lure is a soft plastic bait.

Mo code further says:

From the closed zone 760 feet below Table Rock Dam to the mouth of Fall Creek, and tributaries of Lake Taneycomo. Artificial flies and lures only (soft plastics specifically prohibited).

Not that I see anything wrong with your lure. I would use it myself -- outside of the restricted zone.

Bud

Tippet, very interesting fly for sure.

The only thing that sicks out to me is the "single point hook" mention from Bud's post.

Yours has two.

maybe remove the trailer hook.

there is something you dont often hear together, "fly" and "trailer hook" :D

Was it ever decided if this was a legal lure for fishing the trophy area? The way I read the code it looks to me like it falls under the soft plastic bait catagory, which of course would make it illegal in the trophy area. I am interested in knowing if MDC has had any imput on this. Perhaps the MDC needs to clairify the code. :D

Thanks

Bud

I would rather be fishin'.

i think someone needs to take a better photo of the fly so you can see the material it is made of. not plastic as some of you think. is a braid with softex coating to give a stiff effect to the fly. or i guess you have to say artifical. and i don't think i read tippet7 saying he was snagging any fish. i read him to say he was catching fish. keep using it tippet7 it is legal in ark. i don't think after talking to mdc this morning it will be illegal. it is an artifical lure.

What about using those egg patterns on Taney not glow balls but those you can make with a hot glue gun or something similar? I have never used them before but I have seen people using them near the dam. Just curious if they are legal there.

Got a reply from Chris Vitello, MDC. Here's what he wrote -

1/26/06

Phil,

I have consulted with others within MDC and have actually secured one

of these lures to consider its status. A couple of points.

1. I suggest that you post the following information from theWildlife

Code of Missouri somewhere for your clients ... maybe on the forum:

3 CSR 10-20.805 Definitions

(22) Flies, lures and baits:

(A) - Natural and scented baits - A natural fish food such as bait

fish, crayfish, frogs permitted as bait, grubs, insects, larvae, worms,

salmon eggs, cheese, corn and other food substances not containing any

ingredient to stupefy, injure or kill fish. Does not include flies or

artificial lures. Includes dough bait, putty or paste-type bait, any

substance designed to attract fish by taste or smell and any fly, lure

or bait containing or used with such substances.

(B) Soft plastic bait (unscented) - Synthetic eggs, synthetic worms,

synthetic grubs and soft plastic bait.

© Artificial Lure - A lure constructed of any material excluding soft

plastic bait and natural and scented baits as defined in (A) or (B)

above.

(D) Fly - Artificial lure constructed on a single-point hook, using any

material except soft plastic bait and natural and scented bait as

defined in (A) or (B) above, that is tied, glued or otherwise

permanently attached.

The lure in question as pictured on your website and the one that we

examined is definitely NOT a fly, because it has two hooks. However,

it is legal in Lake Taneycomo both above and below Fall Creek because it

does qualify as an "Artificial Lure" under the definition above.

Hope this helps.

Hey guys, the fly is a new pattern from Spirit River. Its a plastic coated wire (titanium) I think. Very stiff and not "soft".

The two hook rule would get you into trouble on AR C&R waters but fine outside that.

I spoke to our beaver game wardens about these soft eggs from Montana Fly, Chewy Eggs from Wapsi etc. I rbought some back from the Denver Dealers Show last year and sold a bunch _ they worked pretty good ;)

His view was that the fly would be legal in even the C&R areas becuase it was not "scented".

That is the reason those berkley soft plastics, power bait etc etc etc are illegal in Arkansas C&R areas at least.

Cheers

tippet,

did you buy that assembled or did you tie it? where did you order it from (could you provide a link?)?

Thanks Phil!!! Thats a huge post right there.

Squirrelpie- here is the link to Cabelas. I did not tie that "fly" I bought it at Anglers and Archers here in Branson. Matter of fact I bought ALL of them that they had at the time. :P

In regards to Steve's post and the eggs- they wouldn't be legal in Missouri, fly/lure only. They are soft plastic, regardless of being scented.

They look real good though!!
