Chief Grey Bear Posted May 30, 2007 Posted May 30, 2007 I need a couple of seine poles. Anybody now where I can get some? I would prefer an Ash or Hickory, but at this stage I'm not going to be to picky. I have been gonna get off my butt and make some but haven't. Wayne SW/MO Posted May 30, 2007 Posted May 30, 2007 Hoe Carefully Terry. I always liked Willow, they're generally straight, strong and give a little. You can buy a 10' stick of 3/4 or 1" EMT conduit and use it, although 5' seems a little short, so you might want 2 shortened ones. Today's release is tomorrows gift to another fisherman.
gonefishin Posted May 30, 2007 Posted May 30, 2007 Electrical Conduit. I would rather be fishin'. "Democracy is two wolves and a lamb voting on what to have for lunch. Liberty is a well-armed lamb contesting the vote." Benjamin Franklin, 1759
Chief Grey Bear Posted May 31, 2007 Author Posted May 31, 2007 Hoe handles? Now that is an idea. But I'm not sure they would be long enough. I'm looking in the 5'9" - 6' range. I will look around the farm store though. Carefully Terry. I always liked Willow, they're generally straight, strong and give a little. You do have me thinking about it though. I have access to a lathe, so I was going to go cut my own. But you guy's have give me some ideas on some options. Kayser Posted May 31, 2007 Posted May 31, 2007 I found that Elm saplings seem to work pretty well. But beyond that, PVC pipe works as good as anything else. Rob WARNING!! Comments to be interpreted at own risk. Time spent fishing is never wasted.
Dutch Posted May 31, 2007 Posted May 31, 2007 big dowel rods like for gig handles from a lumber company
Kicknbass Posted June 1, 2007 Posted June 1, 2007 I've alway just slipped into the woods w/ a hatchet and found a couple of straight sapplings. You could buy 1" or 1 1/4" closet rod from most lumber yards. 1 16' length would give you 2 nice seine poles. " Too many hobbies to work" - "Must work to eat and play"
Members TexomaOkie Posted June 4, 2007 Members Posted June 4, 2007 I bought two 6' wood flag poles at Walmart. I use the big round knob on the top of the poles on the bottom of the seine and they work great. They've solved the problem I've had in the past with my seine poles sticking in mud or hanging in rocks.
