motroutbum Posted June 6, 2007 Posted June 6, 2007 watch your terms here....invasive, or non native? there is a difference no armadillos are not native to missouri Armadillos are native to south america and have only been in the us for the last 150 years There are two types of people. gonefishin Posted June 6, 2007 Posted June 6, 2007 Armadillo's were brought here by some well meaning persons of non-native origin who thought they we would like some good old possum on the half shell. I don't believe the no worms theory. Even if it was true they would have a natural route from Central America right back into their traditional grounds. I would rather be fishin'. Wayne SW/MO Posted June 7, 2007 Posted June 7, 2007 I believe the LM bass is native, but was probably in much fewer numbers than the Smallmouth because clean, still water was scarce. The northern part of the state may heve been an exception, or not? Today's release is tomorrows gift to another fisherman.

OK... another bit of fodder for debate... Armadillos... native to Missouri? From fishes to mammals. I don't know about 'dillos. I am not sure how they got here. I do know I don't like them. I would rather be fishin'. "Democracy is two wolves and a lamb voting on what to have for lunch. Liberty is a well-armed lamb contesting the vote." Benjamin Franklin, 1759

Wayne SW/MO Posted June 7, 2007 Posted June 7, 2007 How did they get across the canal? I would imagine Teddy Roosevelt could tell you. I am not sure how they got here. They walked, but the Red river slowed them down quite a bit. They started crossing it in the 70's, and now here they are. Today's release is tomorrows gift to another fisherman.
jcoberley Posted June 7, 2007 Posted June 7, 2007 umm si if they walked here on there own are thay native now? Fish slow and easy! Borrowed this one from..........Well you know who! A proud memer of P.E.T.A (People Eating Tasty Animals)
Terry Beeson Posted June 7, 2007 Author Posted June 7, 2007 There was a comment on this forum a few months ago about 'dillos not being able to cross the Missouri River... The crossed the Red River, the Arkanasas River, and the White River... I think the Missouri will be a piece of cake... TIGHT LINES, YA'LL "There he stands, draped in more equipment than a telephone lineman, trying to outwit an organism with a brain no bigger than a breadcrumb, and getting licked in the process." - Paul O’Neil
motroutbum Posted June 7, 2007 Posted June 7, 2007 I said that they have only been in the US!!!! for the last 150 years. The canal wasnt even built 150 years ago. did you forget your history? they are excellent swimmers so it is deffinitely plausible that they could cross a river. no matter how big. They cant tolerate the cold weather. Thats why they havent gone any farther north. dillos are an invasive species. They are not native here and never will be. There are two types of people. Those who dream dreams and wish, then there are the do'ers. I am a do'er!
