Kayser Posted June 6, 2007 Posted June 6, 2007 Actually, buffalo and carp taste pretty good, buffalo better than carp. You can get "River Fish" at a lot of places around here, always scored and deep-fried. Just because they look kinda ugly when alive doesn't mean they aren't tasty. Just look at a bullfrog, crayfish, or even a crab. Rob WARNING!! Comments to be interpreted at own risk. Time spent fishing is never wasted.
Terry Beeson Posted June 6, 2007 Posted June 6, 2007 Dried corn husks... Pulled 'em out of the bed matress... Click here for an interesting story on carp... Carp, it seems, is one of the most eaten fish in the world. Smoked carp is good if done right. I've had both good and bad in the past. I prefer the good.. If done right, it will remind you a bit of smoked salmon. jcoberley Posted June 6, 2007 Posted June 6, 2007 Years ago I had a friend that used to make carp noodles from the rib meat. I never seen him prepair them however I did eat them 2 or 3 times and they were good. Not great but good. Fish slow and easy! Borrowed this one from..........Well you know who! Just look at a bullfrog, crayfish, or even a crab. Rob I have ate some carp and buffalo that were pretty good myself. The problem with carp is there is such a huge amount of red meat vs white meat. By the time one trims the red meat there is very little edible meat left, so a person is likely to starve to death before enough carp can be cleaned to obtain even a meager portion of edible meat. Then comes the second problem, bones. If he/she survives the process of cleaning the huge pile of carp required to obtain a meager amount of edible meat then by eating it he/she runs the risk of choking to death on one of the many bones in the remaining edible meat. Of course a person doesnt have to trim the red meat before eating the carp but in the immortal words of Crocodile Dundee "you can survive on it but it tastes like (expletive)." Just the way I see it. See not everything I said was wrong you have to cut the red meat from the carp before it is good to eat then it is full of bones. HAH I would rather be fishin'. Terry Beeson Posted June 7, 2007 Posted June 7, 2007 Well, that's one point for you, GF... I would bet about any fish mixed with crackers, eggs, onion, and some seasoning then fried in a patty would taste pretty good... especially after a few brewskies... I grew up on salmon, mackerel, tuna, bluegill, bass, and even a bit of white bass cooked up that way... gonefishin Posted June 7, 2007 Author Posted June 7, 2007 I like most fish fried up. I prefer corn meal breading tho. I would rather be fishin'. "Democracy is two wolves and a lamb voting on what to have for lunch. Liberty is a well-armed lamb contesting the vote." Benjamin Franklin, 1759
