Terry Beeson Posted June 11, 2007 Posted June 11, 2007 What use to be a nice relaxing way to spend some time on the river and enjoy the scenary has, sadly, become a floating party time for many folks. I can't, for the life of me, understand why some idiot thinks no more of a beautiful stream they are floating that they would discard their cans, bottles, and other trash in it. I can honestly say that even in the ignorance and stupidity of my youth, I NEVER left trash other than a few cigarette butts in the woods or water. I do regret even that. ollie Posted June 11, 2007 Posted June 11, 2007 Bobber, it has been that way for a long time now. I wish they had limited the number of outfitters on the river, but they didn't. You should have at least seen the County boat out giving tickets. Let me guess, the canoes were so thick you could walk across the river without touching water? I try and leave that section alone until after Labor Day. bobber Posted August 7, 2007 Author Posted August 7, 2007 floated with 'kozycamp" outfitters, to test ride an new boat.... man it was bow to stern.. aluiminum wave of people ..i did a ten mile run to play in a set of waves that was about 8 miles from the put-in(yeah! what was i thinking?) this is the good part!!! at this wave set ,the river goes to the right,.. tight to the bank, under a low hanging limb!!! .... you with me ? out in the middle of the river there's a set of big ole' ledge rocks, that if you hit them ,one of two things happen.. one!! she floats over, then he high-centers and as she smiles.... the water rolles them over really slow.... the person in the bow NEVER SEE IT COMMING! over they go!...or they hit so hard they slide off the seats and on to the floor ...and then roll over !!! i sat in that same spot for at least 4 hours laughing so hard!!at one time they piled up twenty sum canoes, they just kept slam in to each other like bumper boats... in one pileup a girl snaped her arm ,and i had to take over!!.. as being the only sober one.. or the only one with a wistle, and a lifevest anyway, they all just stood there looking at me! and let me bark-off orders!... hey you!.. stop all them canoes!!.. you four guys help them turn over those canoes ... hey you kids grab them shoes, hats, trash, and coolers! by this time all the crying is over, and it seemed like all was ok ..then i go into boyscout mode with a baggie and some ice and small stick and a teeshirt, i wrap her arm up. at some time thru all this i looked up and man!! everyone was watching me work my magic!!.... this was a wildeness safty class in progress! i told them that they could mail there entry fees to me! in the end i got hugged twice,by the girl and her mom! and all the people clapped for me! <*)))))))>< * AMERICAN CANOE ASSOCIATION CERTIFIED CANOE, and SWIFT WATER RESCUE INSTRUCTOR.*
ollie Posted August 7, 2007 Posted August 7, 2007 Let me know next time you get up this way so we can hook-up, but not on the upper part of Elk. You can leave me out of that one!
