Yep those were the god times. I am the oldest of five my brother and I were up at 4:30 to do chores and on the bus at 6:30 for school. We ot home about 4:30 and back to chores untill 6:30 for supper. Cleaned up did a little homework and off to bed. That was our school week. Weekend were loaded with chores so we would rush through them so we could have a little time for our oun things. We never had to chop a lot of wood however milking feeding calfs sloping hogs cleaning barns mending fences. Summer we did all that plus planted and made hay. Always looked foward to rain because the fields were to wet and we could fish. This is all true no joking. However as I have said it really was a good life. It taught us how to think for our selfs and entertain our selfs. I think more kids should have a little bit of this and thay might understand how nicew they have it.

Yep... some kind of "boot camp" for teens... on the farm... Of course, Paris Hilton turned it into a joke and didn't learn a darn thing...

And there's the key------it taught how to use the power of imagination.

Imagination is the requisite forerunner to ALL progress. If it can't be visualized it won't be created-----as simple as that.

Except for a single utterly critical factor you are absolutely right. That factor is that under current societal standards imposed by the 'Love Generation's' KoolAide quaffers & Kumbaya chanters it would be deemed cruelty to a child and those practicing it would be proscecuted by the ACLU controlled judicial system.

There you go again, Tom... jeez... Now I'll have that "Kumbayah" song in my head for hours...

One's imagination and creativity must be developed, nurtured, and exercised to be worth any value to society. And I feel we have failed as a society to keep those juices flowing for the most part. However, there are still signs out there of a handful of promising young people who can carry on that torch. But video games and kicking, throwing, or hitting a ball won't do the trick. We must get our kids involved in more "artistic" development. By that I don't mean just oil paintings and such. I'm talking about a host of creative efforts that will add value to their lives. It's one of the reasons I tie flies, write short stories, woodwork, and play guitar. It helps me understand I can do things for myself and not just have them handed to me on a platter.

I suspect that the big difference is that generations have evolved from having what they needed, but not what they wanted to a generation that has more than they need and everything they want. Of course the blame lies squarely on adults however.

Well said, Wayne. Let's go back about 40 or 50 years and take a look at what was considered "upper middle class" and what toys they had and then compare that with LOWER middle class of today. We are a VERY spoiled generation... and it's getting worse...

With out a doubt I think the baby boomer's did more thinking and technological inventions than any other generation. I am proud of part of it. However I am ashamed that the family values have went out the window. Not very many family's eat dinner at the table and take time for their children or parents as far as that go's. Lack of compassion and caring has went by the wayside. Just watch people drive. There is a very large amount of tail gating, pulling out in front of, speeding, crowding, yelling, honking and road rage Than ever. I have driving in big city's all my life and I never seen as much as I do in our small communities as I do today. When was the last time any one of us went next door and help. I mean just because we are friendly. From fence building up to barns and house roofing. Just be honest. We don't, however we all expect someone to help us and are disappointed when it dose not happen! When we see need we look for money! Its just a fact of live. Is it a better live? I would debate it........We know one word that is unspoken, its called GREED. And that one we have down like no other country has. I hate to be down but the truth is the truth. I am glad to meet a few good people that are not that way and its a breath of fresh air. Most I have met here. Keep up the good work friends!
