jdmidwest Posted July 1, 2007 Posted July 1, 2007 GF, I did not attack anyone person on here, just the ones that question the 1/8 cent sales tax. It is money well spent and the MDC is probably the only government agency that has operated within its budget with out asking for a raise or increase in funding other than permits which I feel is justified. The same 1/8 cent tax was approved again by voters, they did not ask for 1/4 cent or a bigger increase this time like other government entities would, just what they had been operating under. Individual land purchases have been slow lately. Elk in MO could have been a disaster to our farmers and our deer populations. They did not think twice about otters and bears and both look like they may be problems now after the fact. We have dodged the bullet so far with CWD in the deer population, and if they had brought in Elk, who knows. Working with landowners is a great thing because most of the land in MO is privately owned. Someone needs to help educate the landowners to preserve MO wildlife and water quality. And they will stock your fish pond if you need them. As far as enforcement goes, alot of game violations get by because of the lack of agents in the field. 1 agent per county does not cut it. And I would not feel bad if MHP increases the number of troopers either. There is never one around if you need it. I think we should respect the ones that help to preserve our outdoors. brownieman Posted July 1, 2007 Posted July 1, 2007 my box would be ..#1...wise money management, #2...accountability #3... stop buying air contitioned trucks. lol Any of you get any advise that you can't find out for youself, lets hear it, any state employee that drops a little sweat on your land helping out, tell me where and when, if so...like I've said...thats some expensive sweat..."Private Land Services".. whatever...just the newest "money pit". A hike...a big-mac...give me a break!! Pretty judgemental low rent comments imo Better than sitting around eating big macs in idleing air conditioned state trucks...we have to pay for our own gas and burgers...our tax dollars are buying theirs, lol My friends say I'm a douche bag ?? gonefishin Posted July 1, 2007 Posted July 1, 2007 jdmidwest: I did not take what you said as a personal attack, no more than what I said was meant as a personal attack. Just discussing a difficult subject. I would rather be fishin'. "Democracy is two wolves and a lamb voting on what to have for lunch. Liberty is a well-armed lamb contesting the vote." jcoberley Posted July 1, 2007 Author Posted July 1, 2007 I notices there was no comment on MCD AND DNR! Looks like one in the same to me. Just a way to mask more revenue. As far as farming. I only had them on my farm one time and I didnt invite them. However they did drive across my fields and kill some crops to get to a creek that some kids were fising on and had an old flat bottom boat no motor and was unregesterd. Didnt cost them however it cost me in the damage that was done. Fish slow and easy! Borrowed this one from..........Well you know who! A proud memer of P.E.T.A (People Eating Tasty Animals)
Tightline Posted July 1, 2007 Posted July 1, 2007 I agree with Jd and Al,and griping about air conditioned trucks, does anyone know of any the federal, state or local goverment vehicles that aren't air conditioned.I usually throw back all my Trout but I'll start saving mine for you Brownie if you want me to.
jcoberley Posted July 1, 2007 Author Posted July 1, 2007 Look here boys I know a snow job when I see it. And I know the road to hell is paved with good intentions. As far as air conditioned go's hell I dont care about that! That is not the point here. And what about fishing below the dam at truman? I have seen more then one checking there. I guess we were so bad they had to call in help from other parts HUH!!!!! Come on get real and open your eyes!!! Fish slow and easy! Borrowed this one from..........Well you know who! jcoberley Posted July 1, 2007 Author Posted July 1, 2007 OH BTW I just want this for the record. I have the upmost respect for our local agents. I am not knocking the in the least. However I am knocking the Managment. They need to learn how to stop patting backs of un mention ppl and worry about other issues that we have hired them for. Fish slow and easy! Borrowed this one from..........Well you know who! A proud memer of P.E.T.A (People Eating Tasty Animals)
jcoberley Posted July 1, 2007 Author Posted July 1, 2007 Yep, MDC has a lot of money on hand..Interest earned on cash reserves doesnt have anything to do with amount of your permit fees though. MDC has a big budget and they need a lot of cash in the bank to make payroll and pay bills. Their annual budget is around $160M a year, so I'd imagine that they would have at least $20-50M in the bank at all times. And FWIW,,,Hunting and Fishing permits only provide $28M of their $160M budget...Their cash cow is the 1/8cent sales tax that provides them with 100M per year. If their primary support was from permit and user fees, we'd be paying a lot more. Cheers. Hum 114 counties in missouri You say they budget $160M a year. Lets do a little math. 160 \ 144 = Almost 1.5M per county HUmmmm well one BIG eye opener wouldnt you say!!!!!!!!!!!! Fish slow and easy! Borrowed this one from..........Well you know who! brownieman Posted July 1, 2007 Posted July 1, 2007 The reference I make concerning air conditioned trucks...most know and I don't even know if you can buy a truck without air these days. I'm just saying it might get them out of their trucks and actually do something during the hot months...nothing to do with the cost of the trucks. Tightline...thanks but no thanks...don't care much for the taste of em, got kind of a pellet taste, lol...keep throwin em back... but by looking at those pics "The Meat Hauls" you don't need to keep any...your freezers probably gettin pretty full and those fish aren't costing us an arm and a leg to raise, lol. For the record also I have total respect for the agents that TRY to do their jobs. It appears to me most of the their time is devoted to PR, Hunters Safetey Classes, etc. They have little time to focus on poaching and violations in the state...which is where their efforts are SUPPOSE to be. Due to the dept. deer hunters do not even have to check deer in last year...just purchase a tag and call the kill in...that sure keeps a watchful eye on the hunters and methods...NOT. There are so many rules and regs (which we the taxpayer have no say so in) they can't enforce in a timely manner the laws that are already on the books...this is what I have been told and just the opinion I have come to. Each of us is entitled to that or are we even losing that freedom. IMO wealth has a way of creating greed and corruption...IMO this applies to every walk of life from local levels all the way to the top. My intent is not to put anyone down...these issues to me are a world wide concern, yes...we are fortunate to live in Mo. and even more so to live in a country that still enjoys a FEW freedoms...but they are becoming less...when does it stop or what does it take to turn it around and people to open their eyes. Man and our methods...well...we are our own worst enemy...humanity is slipping and imo we are on a path of self destruction. My friends say I'm a douche bag ?? Avatar...mister brownie bm <><
