The tax is one eight of a penny on the dollar. Mo state tax is 4.225 cents per dollar total. Then add County and local taxes which total 6.725 cents per dollar here. The 1/8 cent tax is barely noticed.

The problem is a lot of people haven't figured out the difference between a percentage and total dollars. They (MDC) doesn't get 1/8th percent of total tax dollars they get 1/8th cent of EVERY dollar spent on taxable items in MO. There is a BIG difference.

Lets use a new car for example and for easy calc lets say the car cost 25,000 and the total sales tax is 5%. That would make the total sales tax on the new car $1250. If the MDC got 1/8% of the total they would get $1.56 on a car sale but that is not what happens. They get 1/8cent on every one of the $25000 which is $31.25

I know that doesn't seem like a lot of money on one car sale but how many cars are sold in MO every year? And remember they get 1/8 cent of every dollar every time that car is re-sold. Then add in the tax from every dollar spent in the grocery store, Walmart, the gas stations, furniture stores, clothing, medicine, restaurants, parts stores, boats, rv's and so on and on and on. I don't know what the total number of taxable dollars spent in MO annually is but 1/8% of each of these dollars is HUGE.

GF,thats exactly what I posted as the tax,1/8 of 1 cent.

It would be interesting to see what Missouri, licenses, and State parks would be like if that tax had never been passed.

Sorry I was not trying to bring the school in to this it was just a reference there is no connection that I am aware of.

GF is correct the tax is on everything sold and resold and so on.

I still haven’t seen any posts as to new property that MDC has purchased and if we are getting to use it! As far as land gaining value like gold! Sure the populace keeps growing and thus brings another statement. I hear all the time how a tax has not been increased Well my friends if a small town grows from lets say 1000 people to 5000 people is that not an income of taxes increase? Don’t they get a percentage of taxes from everyone in the city, county state? We have and will keep getting the wool pulled over our eyes. I still think we need a little more show for the money given… More public access points would be nice.

Tightline...

1/8 of 1 cent was correct...you stated 8 cents from each dollar was what they received.

Wouldn't break the bank but would help break our pocketbooks...if they got that much we would be feedin the monkey big time, lol

The only money wisely spent is when it is your own...then it matters.

If it's tax dollars on any level with no strict accountability...well...get out the lube, feed the monkey just to watch him s**t, lmao

There are about 3 million workers in MO. Average income is $32705 If only half $16325 (it is more than half) is spent on taxable items then each person pays $20.40 (not counting licenses, fines or other fees)to the state of MO each year. According to my calculator that comes to an income of a tad more than 61 million dollars from the 1/8th cent sales tax alone.

That is a nice little chunk of change.

GF I would say your right on track. I just want them to show me the property and buildings that have been bought and built with the 1/8 tax. I don't even want to know about when they built Truman or Stockton. I am not talking about all that. I am talking about after they started getting the 1/8 sales tax..................
