taxidermist
My son and I hit the river about noon, sky was overcast temps were perfect for us. We made our run upriver and started fishing. we were catching some nice bows in the 12-14 inch range on Chrome Rooster tails. I decided to swithc to a crankbait, and was catching less but larger bows. I made a cast up near the bank and bam a large Male Brown trout knocked the crap out of the lure. After a brief and thrilling fight my son netted the brown 21 inches. We made the drift on thru the hole and did well on bows, then I made another cast up into the wad of tree trunks and limbs and bam another nice brown had sucked my spinner down. This old gal put up a great fight, but she was to die from loss of blood the hook ruptured her heart. she measured 18 inches. My son normally catches more browns than I do but today I smacked him into his place with 23 total count on the brown trout, sure most were in the 8-10 inch range and tthree close to the magic 16 inch. He came away with five for his count on browns. I caught three cutthroats. he caught two. We lost count on the rainbows, but did very well on nice bows. seems they like larger lures. When we were drifting the first hole a man who had watched us catch some nice bows ran just infront of us and dropped anchor, guess noone is more important than him and his two guys in the boat. I caught the two big browns within and very easy eyesite distance, I amde sure to show them that their being rude did not help them catch big fish. Matter of fact they were having troubles catching fish. I am guessing there was three generators on as we had good water flow Yea dispite their rude tude we caught fish. You don't have to be rude on the river or on the lake or be a ramp hog. Noplace no time for being rude!!!! Yep, when I caught the fish infornt of them and they were trying to see what I was using I made sure to hide my lures. But hten most people would not use so called bass lures for trout!!! John P.S. I am taking pics to make some postings!!!
brownieman
My first trout venture in Ark. was years ago...I had a 24 ft. river jon with a 10 horse and a motor jack. We put in at the confluence of the White and North Fork...stayed in a cabin at Sailsville. Never had been on either river...good flow was coming down the North fork...must have been generating...we headed up the N. Fork got about a mile upstream, killed the motor and were drift fishing. First fish we caught was a 31 inch brown, male...weighed 9 lbs...we thought we had found the best fishing hole in the world and in years to come caught many big browns on both these rivers. We used as you called them "Bass Baits"...people thought we were nuts till they saw what we were catching...we tried to hide our lures also so I know exactly what you are saying. There are some huge browns in both the White and North Fork rivers...had a couple of really close calls in that old river jon on the North Fork...when they are cranking water that is one wicked river to run... taxidermist
Brownieman, I have a 22ft river jon, never really been up on the Norfork. But we run the White a lot. It sets higher in the water than glass boats, so we can get to some areas others cannot. Current motor is an older 9.8 Mercury, its fine for two people but three is a bit of a load on it. Do have a 4 stroke 25 HP Yamaha, it the shop for lower unit rebuild. The 25 is about right but the 4 storke is a bit heavy. John
brownieman
hey john...my old boat was an old aluminum 24' long 36" wide river jon with a motor jack and I ran either a 10 or 18 horse on it. just fixed it all up a couple of years ago...had sat for awhile, got to use it twice and some punks in a car smashed into it (had it parked along an alley by my house) and totally destroyed the boat and trailer...trailer was 28' long. I used that boat for about 30 yrs. and it broke my heart...i had it fixed up real nice again. all I have is pictures of the old boat...the last pictures i have of it....well, it's bent in half...had to sell it for scrap. Haven't been back down to Ark. since then...she sure was a dandy. later buddy My friends say I'm a douche bag ??
