Members bowfin47 Posted July 20, 2007 Members Posted July 20, 2007 Well, Marc Pinsel and the rest of the crew from south Louisiana and S.E. Texas have been "drafted" again to cook the chicken for the party on the Thursday before Southern Conclave. I just hope that when the chickens is delivered this year that it is not frozen solid! Cuttin' up frozen chicken is tough work! Bowfin47
Al Agnew Posted August 3, 2007 Posted August 3, 2007 I'm out here in Emigrant, close to Livingston, and although I'm not a member I stopped by the Conclave and viewed the exhibits, talked to a few exhibitors, watched some flies being tied and some casting being done. Didn't have time to stay for any of the programs. Last night was the "fish walk" in town, but Mary and I were on a hike and didn't get back in time to attend. The exhibitors were complaining that it gets so hot in the gym where the exhibits are in the afternoon that nobody can stand to be in there. Lots of people were there yesterday morning, however. I have to say I was somewhat disappointed in the exhibits. The only rod company, other than a few hand-made cane guys, that was there was St. Croix. There just didn't seem to be all that much there. Stopped to talk to Dave Whitlock but he was busy talking to others and I didn't have time to hang around. So what did I miss?
Terry Beeson Posted August 4, 2007 Posted August 4, 2007 Sorry I'm so late posting this... The Federation of Fly Fishers is "an international service organization dedicated to the betterment of the sport of fly fishing through Conservation and Education." It is divided into councils based on geographic region. The Sounthern Council of Federation of Fly Fishers included MO, KS, AR, IL, LA, TX, OK, and Memphis. Each year, the "main event" is the Conclave. It is a fly fishing event that included seminars, instructions, fly tying demonstrations, casting games, product exhibits, silent and live auctions, dinners, and of course fishing. It is held the first Thursday-Saturday in October in Mountain Home, AR. As Dennis Slane puts it, "You can learn more in three days of conclave than you will fishing all year long." If you like to fly fish, you will like conclave. You will meet more people - fly tyers, fly fishermen, guides, etc. - than you can on any river. It is a great event that NOBODY who fly fishes the White River system should miss. You should go at least one time. This is the SOC-FFF's main fund raising event. To learn more about the FFF, SOC, and conclave, visit the SOC-FFF website by clicking here. Then Click here to visit the main FFF website. You do not have to be a member of FFF to attend.
