Members Ozark Posted December 26, 2007 Members Posted December 26, 2007 Yes my first one of the stich and glue type. I understand the work issue the boss makes sure I've got plenty to do also.I'll keep you posted as I start maybe we can put them in for a fish sometime.
Flysmallie Posted December 28, 2007 Author Posted December 28, 2007 Ordered the fiberglass cloth today. That was the last thing I needed. Hopefully I will be able to start on it again this weekend. I'm starting to get excited about getting it completed again. Can't wait to get it on the water. Ozark, getting together for a float would be great. I'd really like to see how yours turns out. I have already talked to Matt at JEM about making me some plans for a kayak with a rod storage system. That way I can carry my spinning rod and a couple of flyrods and not have to worry about them being in the way or getting destroyed on one of my adventures. Â Â
Members Ozark Posted December 28, 2007 Members Posted December 28, 2007 What weight glass cloth did you order? I think I'll use a four onuonce From RAKA. As to the graphite it sound like the way to go. It just happens I'm going down to Lousiana to meet some of the best Pirouge builders in the nation. I've been looking at Matt's Laker or a Freedom for a future build. I see you like the james from horse creek to Galena also. Man I've nailed them at Yoakam bend. Paul

Still not sure that I will do the graphite thing. It seems like a great idea, just haven't really thought much about it. I see you like the james from horse creek to Galena also. Man I've nailed them at Yoakam bend. Paul Yeah, I love the James. It may not be the best in the world but it's close to home and usually pretty quiet. I have no idea where Yoakam Bend is though. But I just don't know any of those places by name. I'll bet I know it when you tell me where it is!!! Â Â
Members Ozark Posted December 28, 2007 Members Posted December 28, 2007 Yoakam Bend is the long bend with the high bluff and the cabins on the right. Any where from Horse creek to Galena is good though. Are you glassing inside and out both? Mine will be. I got 1/4 inch Hickory from Schaller in Marionville for the SW 15-30 what are you using? Paul
Flysmallie Posted December 28, 2007 Author Posted December 28, 2007 Yoakam Bend is the long bend with the high bluff and the cabins on the right. I know that place! I haven't spent much time there though. Looks like we need to get together and share some spots. Are you glassing inside and out both? Mine will be. Maybe!!! I may just tape the seems and apply a coating similar to a sprayed in bed liner. I'm thinking I would like the inside to be a solid color instead of just plain old wood like the outside. I know that I can glass the inside and paint it, but the coating will be far more durable than any coating, plus it will add a little sound deadening. I got 1/4 inch Hickory from Schaller in Marionville for the SW 15-30 what are you using? Paul 1/4 inch birch. Bought it at lowes. Not the best in the world but since this was my first build I didn't want to spend a lot of money on a sinking ship!! Â Â
Members Ozark Posted December 28, 2007 Members Posted December 28, 2007 I think you'll like the pirogue although it is really a flat water boat. With the spray on bed liner I would think just taping and glassin the seams would be fine and sound deadening for sure.
