rps Posted July 15, 2007 Posted July 15, 2007 I guess I wasn't thinking well. I got up this morning and went out. I figured I would try some new spots for the topwater then scoot back home when the jet skis came out. I fished the rip rap and the bluff ends near the Eagle Rock bridge. I was on the water less than an hour when the first jet ski went by at 6:30. I did manage to catch three, all spotted. The largest was one of those TR footballs - 14.5 inches long and nearly as wide. I may go out tomorrow. That kid on the jet ski did not look like he was from here.
skeeter Posted July 16, 2007 Posted July 16, 2007 Yep, know what you mean. Dark of the moon was Saturday 7-14 and Solunar tables put the peak activity at between 12 Noon and 2 P.M. which sounds like a crazy time to try fishing in July but I have, in the past, raised some nice fish on spook and red-fin about two casts lengths off the bluffs in the middle of the day when tables and moon were just right. So, off I go in the 21' Skeeter which I figure can handle the play-boat wakes if I take it easy. WRONG ! Took three wakes over the bow and gunwales in the first mile while barely on plane and taking the wakes as gently as possible. Water felt pretty good but wasn't real happy about it so kicked the Yammie in the butt and got some speed up where I could trim up the bow a bit, bigger mistake ! Good grief...the lake was just jammed with big and BIGGER boats, jet skis, pontoons, you name it all going in 200 hundred different directions, you needed a Traffic Cop to get anywhere. This was in the Baxter area so can't imagine what it was like from Kimberling to the dam. It was far worse than Fourth of July week, Springfield must have been empty. Finally got to a couple of bluffs I wanted to try and after about an hour of rockin' and rollin' with wakes over the transom a couple times I took my pounding and went meekly back to the dock. Guess I need a 28' bow rider deep vee bass boat with two 502 cu. in. I/O's on it
captmac Posted July 16, 2007 Posted July 16, 2007 Fished big creek and found the same thing guess we will have to wait till September To have a true friend is wonderful, to have a true friend who fishes with you....... priceless
MOBass Posted July 16, 2007 Posted July 16, 2007 I gave up fishing Table Rock during the day a few weeks before July 4th. I don't think I'll see the lake during the day until a few weeks after Labor Day. The number of play boats seems to have taken a dramatic up swing in just a few years. I guess LOZ reached capacity and TR is the overflow lot.
rps Posted July 17, 2007 Author Posted July 17, 2007 What a difference a day makes. I went out at nearly the same time Monday morning. Just in case, I went upriver instead of down and fished above Beaver. I did not see a pleasure boater or jet ski until 9:00. Even then, the numbers were way down from Monday. Caught three largemouth on topwater icluding one 16.5 inch fish. When I switched to walleye fishing I caught two before 10:00 AM when I came in. Unfortunately, both were a bit short. I would have stayed out longer but I have a paper due and a final coming up in the course I am taking this summer. Good luck all. Post reports so I know what is going on when I get a chance to fish again.
Members fshnbuddy2 Posted July 18, 2007 Members Posted July 18, 2007 i dont think that its that LOZ is getting to full cuz remember guys those dang play boats can all be on one lake if it were up to them. i just think that unfortunately they are seeing how awesome the rock is and the word is getting out since all the damage at the Ozarks but ohwell i guess we should be happy to still have what we got . good luck everyone and has anyone tried any 30-50 ft football jigs on roll offs
