The Pomme gets hit with anywhere frome 3 to 10 bass tourneys every weekend from late Feb. Thru Nov. When I started fishing the Pomme 30+ years ago it was nothing to catch 25-30 bass a day, now your lucky to catch 5-10. Go to a weigh in site a day after a tourney, and see all the dead bass floating. It,s not that i'm against the competition, there are just too many on such a small lake. Anyway try the spots I mentioned.

Good Luck

The geeze

P.S. Some of the tourneys have up to 70 boats.

They need to mimimize that. IMO, the only tourneys that should happen on Pomme are Muskie tourneys where there might be 5 fish caught in a day!

I agree Geeze. I used to fish the tournaments out of Hwy 83 Marina about 10 to 15 years ago. It's nothing like it was then. I'm not sure the decline is totally the fault of the tournaments but they are doing a lot of damage. If you are going to have 70 boats in a tournament you need to find a bigger lake.

Remember all the grass beds that used to be in the lake? Have they ever came back? I watched the last one I knew of disapear over the course of a year. When the grass was gone, so were the fish. Haven't fished up there in at least 3 years. I may have to spend some time up there this fall to see if it remembers me!!!

i understand your concerns but rest assured our club is a card tourney so we dont actually have a live fish weigh in we just have lengths that are set at an average weight and thats how we have our weigh in at the end of the tourney but we can do that cuz we only have like5-7 boats so no cheating goes on. im sorry to get all you pommy guys worked up just trying to get a little help from fellow fisherman. i wont put another post on here so i dont get several guys saying how bad we are for doing what we love ,im sorry for affending you all

You didn't offend me :goodjob: .

I've fished a ton of tournaments on Pomme de Terre. I've had all the fish in my livewell die. Mostly at night in the summer months. I think what you guys are doing is great, whether you just measure them or even if you take them home and eat them. I don't care, just have fun. Nothing better than getting together with a group of friends and making a little friendly competition out of it. I do think that more than 4 tournaments per weekend is excessive. That's about the way it used to be.

So you may just have to call me a hypocrit, because I bet there is a decent purse in a 70 boat tourney. May just have to go up there and see if I can bring some of that home.

Hey I could start fishing bass tournaments again to pay for my bad fly fishing habit. Well I could if I didn't suck at it!!

Yes...that is not too bad then if they are all measured and released alive for me to catch another day! Thank you for participating in a conservation-minded C&R tourney!

That is pretty cool. It would be nice if all tournies went to that format. Build in some kind of checks and balances w/ partners or digital pics to prevent cheating.
